someone asked me if I'm single and my reaction was weird, so I didn't answer

but I mean, I'm not dating? I live alone. I sleep alone. I haven't been with anyone for several years. I hardly even get hugs, more than a handful per year. and I'd very much like to change all of those things.

but "single"? I don't know, it sounds so off. I guess it implies a lot of stuff about relationships that I've just stopped pretending like I like, accept or even understand at all

so what's the answer? am I single?

what do you think of content warnings like this one: “oops that's a large dose of Ritalin”?

I like it because
a) it's not a heavy subject, no need to be super low-affective and do something like “cw: ADHD meds, high dosage”,
b) it's more engaging than that, and
c) it still tells you all you need to know about the contents; don't open if you want to avoid reading about ADHD meds.

But is it fine though? Just because I like it and don't see a problem doesn't mean that everyone feels the same.

Genuinely asking for input.

Where to draw the line with CW's is something I'm constantly pondering. It's a question of balance to me, since I don't want to CW every toot. And since I don't, I think these two rules of thumb become very important:

a) Be consistent!

Let's that I'm tooting about food. I don't CW mentions of food in general or of specific foods, like “we ate chocolate cake”.

But I do on the other hand CW pictures of food, and more detailed descriptions of food. (“the chocolate cake was …”)

And as long as I'm being consistent, people who need CW's for all mentions of food can mute me, while those who only need CW's for the food pics won't get any bad surprises.

b) Try to include obvious filter words!

This toot talks a lot about food. And "food" is an obvious filter word. So it will get filtered. Sometimes I'm playful and want to use unusual synonyms (like sustenance, hominine feed, provisions, victuals), but I still try to remember to include the obvious filter word somewhere.
