This one took me extraordinarily long. Felt like DNF at times, but I always went on in the end. Well worth it. The first half of the 20th century in #Japan from a less frequent perspective.
@janbartosik@bookstodon@scifi@knihy Vinge was a fantastic author, the Zones of Thought books I loved, but also A Deepness In The Sky is one of my all-time favourites. I hadn't heard he was gone, I am sad. RIP. :-(
A coop PvE game for two dads and three sons?
A shooter, preferably. Any recommendations, #mastodon guys? The youngest lad is 10, so as little violence as possible. Thanks 😉
I did this previously by using MultiMC (now PrismLauncher). Make a mix of mods, send them the zip of the whole game instance and ask them to drag and drop it onto MultiMC. The biggest issue I encountered was one family member having a black ingame world until they changed a setting in the graphics mod, otherwise it didn’t seem to be too hard.
By comparison Minetest is much easier for playing mods with family. Everyone downloads the server’s mods when they join. But the interest is lower.
@janbartosik@theron29 Zeptal bych se ho, jestli je součástí Deep State i Putin, protože nikdo neudělal pro mobilizaci Západu a rozšiřování NATO víc než on.
The best epic fantasy book I have read in a while. Tons of names, tribes, nations, cities, countries, factions, individuals clash in a massive once-in-a-millennium undertaking. What more does a bookworm need? Simply top-shelf stuff, imho.
@janbartosik Díval jsem se na to, vypadá to pěkně a náhrada za Goodreads by se hodila, protože to jde dost dolů, ale přijde mi, že tam téměř zcela chybí české knihy.
I have never made it to #goodreads and its #fediverse alternative #bookwyrm is still underdeveloped. Esp. in terms of user interaction and books catalogue.
Any suggestions? I'm after tracking, occasional short review and recommendation from other users.
@janbartosik@bookstodon I've been trying out Storygraph but I'm not convinced by the cataloguing / tagging options as that's what I desperately need as opposed to user recommendations etc. I'm currently trying out collectorz.com / Book Connect (not free). No "community" as such but the tracking side is reasonably flexible.
@janbartosik@bookstodon
I can recommend #LibraryThing, which I've been using for 18 years. Very good for cataloguing and tagging. Can add reviews or not as you wish and has a recommendation feature.
@janbartosik@bookstodon@knihy I'm sure someone will mention Greg McGuire's WICKED which I could not finish. It took some great Broadway bookwriters to make it into the smash musical from that mess of a book.
@janbartosik@bookstodon@knihy does Chariots of Fire exist as a book? Does I, Daniel Blake exist as a book? Braveheart? Cool & Crazy (Heftig og Begeistret), The Chorus (Les Choristes) and the incomparable To be and to Have (Etre at Avoir)?
Generally, the book can be found to be much better than the film, but it is a completely different medium, and I simply wouldn’t consider reading the books of the films above..
