I used to make websites. I wrote “Design for Community.” I designed the original Blogger. I created JPG Magazine, Fray, Kvetch, Cute-Fight, and more.

Now I grow flowers and turn them into CBD products for https://milkbarn.farm. I take care of 30-something chickens, 13 goats, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and my wife and myself in Boring, Oregon.

Nazis, TERFs, and Republicans can fuck off. Do not explain capitalism to me.

He/him.

It's no surprise that Elon Musk is a lying liar who lies, but putting numbers to it is still notable. The scandal isn't when the US government uses a social media company's established reporting process - the scandal is when the social media company doesn't think critically about those requests. Elon's Twitter has not refused a single request since Musk took ownership.

Once again I implore the companies I do business with to not employ the language of intimate relationships when I try to get off of your mailing lists. It's gross.

(I'm aware this is not them but the mailing list management software they are using but that doesn't make it less gross)

@jessamyn it’s so gross and manipulative

There are days when I look at the sea of brilliant weirdness that is human expression on the internet and marvel at the complexity of the communities we can develop and grow together.

And then there are days when I'm like, nah, shut it all down, we're too stupid to be allowed to congregate.

Today is, apparently, is one of the nah days: https://kotaku.com/incel-civil-war-forum-twitter-sex-komesarj-celibate-1850380023

@kims I'm scared to Google that to find out.

Personally, as a user I don’t care too much about decentralization if I can still get my content out of your platform in a usable format when I go.

I just want to be where cool people are and nazis aren’t. I care about your willingness and ability to keep your platform that way as long as possible.

A lot of folks I like and enjoy following are suddenly on and active on bluesky, with a goofy energy I don’t see as much on here.

@tonx But, Tony, everything is so serious all the time. Everyone knows humorlessness is what powers every successful social project. And scolding.

So how many people are planning for a long weekend to celebrate the household holiday of 'new Zelda game dropped'?
Asking because I think I'm doing this.

@amye May 12 cannot get here fast enough.

@amye what does that mean?

fraying,

@amye Sounds fun! I want to think I'm gonna savor it and go slow, but we'll see.

Finally! Mounting an iPad to your dashboard was the stupidest car design decision in decades.

I put a CarPlay screen in my truck, but I just use it for maps and music, two things it’s great at. Everything else is buttons and switches I can operate by touch without looking, as it should be.

fraying,
@fraying@xoxo.zone avatar

@boogah yeah I still have those too. But I’m terminally directionless so I need the maps.

Welp, finally did it. I deleted all my tweets. All 68k of them. I don't want anything I've produced to be part of Elon's garbage island.

I did of course leave one tweet standing. https://twitter.com/fraying

@givemefoxes Right? That's what's funny. Twitter has ALWAYS been run by assholes. The assholes just got bigger and bigger over time.

fraying,
@fraying@xoxo.zone avatar

I visited someone else's profile on Twitter today and every third post was the most horrifying rightwing ad, and that was, for whatever reason, the last straw for me. I stopped posting there a while ago, but I don't want my archive to be another place for hateful people to make money off of hateful advertising.

So here we all are, out in the fediversal fray, trying not to make the same mistakes.

@fahrni I used tweetdeleter.com. You have to sign up for an unlimited subscription (make sure to select paying monthly, not yearly), delete everything, and then cancel the subscription. Winds up costing $14. Worth it.

Since people are asking: I used tweetdeleter.com. You have to sign up for an unlimited subscription (make sure to select paying monthly, not yearly - icky design pattern there), delete your tweets, and then cancel the subscription. Winds up costing $14. There used to be free tools for this, but of course none of them work anymore.

@ojala yeah that’s the thing. It’s all going to be monetized for the absolute worst people.
