This is the only thing I can post instead of 2023 reflections, which would be much more appropriate for this otherwise professional account.

For most of the world, the New Year is a festive season spent with family and friends, celebrating and reflecting on the past year, making new resolutions.

However, for us in , the end of 2023 and the first days of 2024 are filled with injuries and deaths brought by , and worries about the safety of our family and friends.

I could have a lot to say about my 2023 reflections, especially in the professional context, such as speaking at 11 conferences and meet-ups, being a tech editor for a published book, mentoring, and leading side projects. Yet, all I can think of is being grateful that my closest ones and I are alive and healthy thanks to the Armed forces of Ukraine, relentless volunteers, and the international support provided by the world.

This photo was taken this morning, it’s personal to me. I used to live here in Kharkiv before the #war, and I would likely still be there if I hadn’t had to flee to a safer place because of #russian #aggression. The explosion in the nearby area has only damaged the facade and windows. Thankfully, an elderly neighbor couple, the kindest people I know, were not hurt. Yet, 47 people were injured in this attack alone, and this happens daily, every hour, every minute…

These days, russia once again showed its terrorist nature, mercilessly sending rockets and deadly drones all over Ukraine, hitting malls, maternity centers, hospitals, and civil buildings.

We’ll only have peace when russia is defeated, when we have enough weapons and air defense to protect ourselves from those barbarians. That is why the first thing I did in 2024 was to #donate over $3k to multiple charities that supply drones and necessary equipment to the frontline.
