  • fbry,

@LeviKornelsen I'm having a hard time understanding your question.

Are you asking how difficult it is for people to find others who are interested in the games they are interested in?

If so, this should be two polls: one measuring difficulty finding people who are interested in D&D and one measuring difficulty finding people who are interested in other games.

And what do you mean by "other gaming"? Other TTRPGs? Wargames? Boardgames? Videogames?

    fbry,

@LeviKornelsen You're trying to sort people into two bins but gave four options, I don't think you're going to get insightful results.

Hence the two polls. Probably better to ask "Is it easier to find people who talk about D&D or people who talk about other TTPRGs?" and have only two options: "D&D" and "Other TTRPGs."

I couldn’t make any sense of today’s statements about “X” from Twitter’s new CEO, but since she seems so convinced AI is going to fix everything over there, I figured I’d feed them to ChatGPT for a summary.

Moreover, her message borders on being excessively verbose and loaded with buzzwords, such as "unlimited interactivity", "global marketplace", and "powered by AI", which further obfuscate the actual meaning and implications of the impending changes. It is essential in effective communication to break down complex ideas into digestible and relatable chunks that the audience can easily understand and relate to. Overuse of industry jargon can potentially alienate the target audience and may come off as being evasive or insincere. Furthermore, the entire statement hinges on grandiose claims without clear evidence or tangible outcomes. While it's clear that Twitter is planning some form of transformation, the lack of concrete information regarding these changes can leave stakeholders skeptical and dubious of their potential for success. This kind of nebulousness can trigger anxiety and doubt among users, investors, and partners alike.
Finally, there's an overemphasis on what 'X' can deliver and a lack of attention to what users want or need. No successful product or service launch can afford to overlook the importance of user-focused design and development. By leaving out any mention of user input or feedback, Yaccarino inadvertently portrays a top-down approach that might not resonate well with users who desire a more personalized and user-focused experience. In conclusion, while Yaccarino's enthusiasm and passion are commendable, her message falls short in terms of clarity, specificity, and user-centricity. These areas need to be significantly improved upon to ensure effective communication and engagement with the platform's stakeholders.

    fbry,

    @andybaio
Curious to know the prompt you used to get this response.

No fan of Musk or 'X', but I feel like people should ask for prompts that generate AI responses the same way they ask for sources.

Working on yet another long-term game for D&D. Tired of Forgotten Realms (been doing that since the 80s). Greyhawk doesn't hold much appeal for me anymore. So I am looking for inspiration.

What is your favorite setting as a player and/or GM (D&D or otherwise)?

    fbry,

@Dionysus To come out of left field with a 5e setting, I've ached to run a game mixing the Ravnica setting with bits of Eberron.

The only downside is that "wilderness" isn't really a thing in Ravnica.

Other odd ones I adore: Dying Earth (novella series), Numinera (TTRPG), Dark Crystal (movie).

Neither...? Honestly sounds protective. But I might be missing some important context.

Important announcement for Tabletop Designers doing weird esoteric games:

Not enough of us apparently know what an Egregore IS, because holy shit have a lot of us (including me) talked about it without the word.

    fbry,

@LeviKornelsen I learned it from Lancer lol

Watching people make paint by hand is the most amazing thing.

I've gone from wondering how easy it would be to just make my own miniature paints to desperately wanting to make my own paints sheerly just because it looks so fun.

And all this because I don't want to constantly mix paints on my palette for my Tyranid paint scheme....

Not quite finished. It's too rainy to varnish and I'm all out of the tufts for the base, but he's looking real cool!

    image/jpeg

    fbry,

@ASL_Miles I love the colors! The backdrop sells it all so well!

Part of me really wants to get into using a far more vibrant palette for my own minis than the rather muted Zorn palette I've taken to. This piece is certainly helping me along on the decision lol

Latest iteration of my mini character sheet (A7 pages, 74mm x 105mm that open to be A6)

The idea is this is part of a travel set that contains everything needed to be a player or even a . So character info, reference material, pencil, eraser, small dice (the lid could become a dice tray), etc...

I have found tins that appear big enough to hold this (at around 115mm x 85mm). Essentially a useful travel size.

    CC BY-SA

    Feedback welcome.

Front and Back of the booklet. The front contains the following details - Character name - Class + level (times 2) - Background - Race - Alignment - Experience points - Player name The back has a little illustration of a hedgehog with steampunk goggles

    fbry,

    @hedgepig it looks so good!

Going back on antidepressants. I really need to start turning my mental state around. I’ve been in a negative shitty head space and it’s really fucking things up. I can be better. I’m setting my mind to it. Constant positive affirmation to myself. I got this.

    fbry,

@oSeabass I've been there and it sucks - even when I was on my meds. Something that I found helped me foster a positive mindset was writing down what I managed to accomplish at the end of the day.

Could be small, could be big. It didn't really matter. What did matter was then writing down - regardless of how I felt - that "I did good today."

Wondering what to call players' characters in an expanded text of Grave.

"PCs"—traditional, but oddly modern. I worry it may even be confusing to newcomers.

"Characters"—too generic, possible confusion with GM's characters.

Something inspired by Souls/soulslike video games ("chosen," "cursed," "risen")—needlessly arcane & unapproachable?

"Heroes"—short & sweet, obvious & approachable, but you start as nobodies & anyone who'd call you "hero" wears a mocking sneer or a weary look of pity.

    🤔

    fbry,

    @JasonT Perhaps "hopefuls"?

It’s been a very good mail day, as amongst other cool stuff our @morkborg miniatures from @westfaliaminia1 have arrived

we have to say this is the ideal goblin body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like

A close up of the Mörk Borg goblin, a crazed and murderously gleeful expression on its oversized strangely conical head

    fbry,

@WyrdScience @westfaliaminia1 God I love him! I need to find a group of folks willing to play games like Mork Borg with me. My current RPG group is much more into heroic high fantasy than gritty OSR.

I've been seeing people start sharing my post asking for work I made last month again.

It's hard to articulate how much I appreciated the help I got last month and just as difficult to understate that I do, still, need help.

It's also hard for me to repeatedly ask for help out of fear of being seen as a nuisance or panhandling.

    fbry,

The last month of doing spots of freelance work has actually been fun and gratifying, even if only a stop-gap to help me meet my financial needs.

I want to do more of it and actually contribute tangible value to people in the tabletop community. But I have no idea what I have to contribute other than being another code monkey with some design skills.

That's not bad, tbh. But I'm also finding I don't enjoy programming. Not sure I ever did.

    fbry,

Something that I've talked with my therapist about (before having to discontinue therapy due to the cost) was always wanting to be a designer.

But even that has proven... difficult to motivate myself to do. I always thought I had to design websites or apps to get a good job.

Then earlier this week I had an epiphany: I've got a very critical eye for language and semantics. When I code, I focus more on naming and word choice than I do on algorithms.

    fbry,

And realizing this felt like coming to terms with gender dysphoria all over again, but this time it was realizing I had a gift I had simply ignored despite it being right in front of my face.

In my last job, I created a lexicon to help standardize the vocabulary used by both the engineering and business teams because it was incredibly irritating to suss out what the hell anyone was talking about due to overlapping and inconsistent terminology.

    fbry,

And when I worked for Big Gov't, I functioned as an over-qualified technical writer. I even started a side project where I tinkered with a redesign of the widely used template for procedures because the one we were using at the time was atrocious for readability.

    fbry,

My mother used to be a graphic designer, creating layouts for magazines. I learned how to use a computer from watching her, and had access to the entire Adobe suite from an early age.

She used to talk about how weirdly organized I was when I played with Legos. Flattening out the instruction manuals and following them deliberately, step-by-step, in a way I assume most people expect a six-year-old not to.

    fbry,

I guess this is all to say if you are working on a tabletop game - an RPG, a board game, a skirmish game, or a wargame - and you are looking for an editor, a layout designer, or just want someone really nitpicky about phrasing, hit me up.

After several hours of work, I'm gonna call my girl done. Not sure what to call her, especially since the Dunkeldorf material doesn't give her one...

    Ok, folks.

I'm fucking broke. Zip, zero, nada.

I'm looking for any work either:

    1. Hobby commissions: kitbashing and/or painting, or
    2. Web development: websites, apps, or bots.

Don't exactly care what it is, as long as it is paid.

Boosts appreciated to help me find people who are interested in working with me.

If you are interested, DM or email me @ work.with.feb@proton.me

    fbry,

@bobmueller It certainly looks like! Thanks!
