For me, the fastest way to learn is by playing with it, and it sounds like you’re the same.

If you prefer to avoid installing it ‘bare metal’, you can have it on a VM.

I’d suggest specifically QEMU, or VirtualBox.

QEMU, because of the performance, and VB, for its universality, and cross-platform compatibility.

Honesty? Nowadays Linux is just easier for me.

Sometimes you forget that a lot of tools you are use to have in Linux don’t even exist on Windows (like watch and cut). On Windows there are some problems you don’t even have to deal with on Unix-like systems.

Any duck duck go alternative that is better in privacy and security ?

I have always liked and used Duck duck go more than google but now i am considering if i should switch because of the shit they pulled with their app and yesterday when i clicked a link it took me directly to their newsletter subsciption page not even like a popup a proper page without any way except manually backing out . So is...

Arch isn't normally something I'd use but uni needed it. (programming.dev)

Had to install Arch recently because it would help pad word count. Normally I wouldn’t pick it because it takes so long to install for an experience that doesn’t feel different enough to warrant that time. But I had to for uni so I thought people here might appreciate my attempt at making a pretty desktop. If anyone has tips...

If you don’t want to go through the regular install, why not to just use archinstall or EndeavourOS?

What is a distro with updates of Arch but dependencies of Fedora?

I am currently using EndeavourOS, but am annoyed by the constant daily updates of 1GB and pacman not installing important dependencies automatically (ex: spell checker for document editor). I like the way Fedora works: you update whenever, important dependencies are downloaded automatically, and packages are recent-ish, but I...

Do

sudo pacman -S --needed <package-name>

instead.

Hey 👋 dear Linux Community,

I'm still kinda new to Linux (started using this year 😅) I already made it to my main OS, even if I still missing some things which I used on Windows, anyway. What I wanted to ask you guys, what recommendations do you have for Linux Mint (Cinnamon)? In terms of security, optimization, (a way to make the UI looking modern ;-;) and privacy? I would be very interested in what you do guys to optimize your Linux setup :) I'm pretty technical, so there is nothing which could overwhelm me (probaly).

Thx! 🤍

Security is somewhat debatable, but privacy-wise, nothing beats open-source operating systems (Linux/BSD/AOSP).

You can use FFUpdater to install Firefox.

If I were you, I would install Mull instead. And if you need another browser, Fennec, or Chromium-based browser - Cromite from Obtainium.

Looks like you technically can, but it’s not really worth it.

TL;DW: it isn’t really usable.

+1 for Lenovo Legion/HP Omen.

In this order, IMO.

I never had success with archinstall, just the regular installation.

It’s kinda weird, actually.

I’d go for Linux Mint/Fedora Linux.

Another thing, I would’ve play with it first on a VM, like VirtualBox.

I wouldn’t immediately wipe Windows if I were you. I’d do dualboot with Windows.

Then, when you’re ready, stay with dualboot system or go full neckbeard /j

I like the vibe of 4 and 6.

Then 5, 2, 1, 3, that have ‘professional’(?) look.
