My two cents - install it on virtual machine (VirtualBox is an open-spurce cross-platform software) and play with it a little.

Also, thanks to Valve the company behind Steam, gaming became very good (AFAIK, I'm not a gamer) on Linux.

On Linux, unlike Windows and MacOS, you can choose how the graphic part looks like. It's called desktop environment (DE). More than the distribution (Linux 'flavor') itself, you should check if you're comfortable with the DE.

GL :)

If you have more than 4GB of RAM you can install most distros. If not, I'd list my specs, especially the RAM.

Also, IMO, it's less the distro itself. It's more what DE (desktop environment) you choose. The DE is a set of preograms that responsible for the graphical part (like the taskbar, icons, settings).

The distro only help to save you the time/effort changing DE.

Anyways, distros:

x32: Zorin Lite 32bit (little older), Puppy Linux, Bodhi Linux, antiX, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, PeppermintOS, MX Linux.

x64: ZorinOS Lite, Ubuntu MATE, PeppermintOS, Linux Lite.

DEs: LXDE, LXQt, XFCE.

KDE is light-ish (new versions only).

I'd recommend you to stay away from Gnome.

Apparently I answered the first half only in my head..

An external site claims that those are the requirements to 22.04:

• 2 GHz dual core processor

• 4 GiB RAM

• 25 GB of hard drive space

• VGA capable of 1024×768 screen resolution

Thanks you, that's great :)

Do you mean F-droid repo?

As for suggestion, I noticed that you can't really add a custom Lemmy instance.

eruchitanda,
@eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

Sorry, I should've been clearer.

You can, if the app 'allows' you to (I guess it checks a list or smth).

I tried few days ago to add some of the new instances, to check if it truly allow you to add any instance. It didn't let me to add those. Jeroba has the same problem.

I tried w/ VPN, and also w/ Tor.

If possible, to 'force' it to add an intance even if it fails to confirm it's a valid instance.

Tnx in advace for your work mate :)

Any idea if there's a chance that the app will be open-source?

This is so funny to me. Interview of the FREE SOFTWARE foundation founder, on Spotify.

I remember some stuff too. But unlike the comments, I remember it was regarding privacy.

(I don’t remember what it was, and anyone I asked didn’t know what I’m talking about lol)

Maybe a phone above Google logo?

I mean, like that it's more 'Google' than 'Pixel', IMO.

eruchitanda,
@eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

TIL that Pixel has it's own icon (I own one lol).

Good idea BTW!

Best VPNs

My subrsiption with surfshark is ending soon and I was wondering if there was something better around the same price. There are a lot of ads about many VPNs but a lot of them don't look so "safe and private" as they want you to think so it's hard to really figure it out. I don't want to spend too much since I don't use them very...

In terms of privacy, Mullvad VPN is the one that considered the most private by the community.

A. WireGuard. B. Cross-platform. C. No need for Email to register. D. Let you pay with cash. E. Don't have affiliated videos amd commercials. F. Support port-forwarding. G. Had no scandals over the past decade.

Arch. I'm thinking about using NixOS too.

GL on your exam.

Same, also Arch+i3.

I'm thinking about trying NixOS too. A lot of people are talkimg about it lately.

You can install LineageOS GSI (generic system image). GSI, as the name implies, is generic; it means that the OS won't know your actual model, so it'll have some little weird things, like the camera location in the UI.

Plus, I see there's an unofficial TWRP in XDA.

Little late, but Pixel+GrapheneOS.

E: bought the phone for the OS. GrapheneOS/CalyxOS are the ones recommended by the community.
