Mainstream establishment Jewish organizations are to the right of American Jews more generally. And there has always been a gap between mainstream American Jewish organizations and American Jews. There’s a process I describe early on in the book, where Jews were trying to figure out who they were in terms of race and ethnicity and assimilation and acculturation. But institutional Jewish leadership at this time knew exactly what they wanted to be. They wanted to be white, because they understood that whiteness in this country came with rights and privileges and they were not going to have that taken away just so people could feel different and special. So you have American Jewish leaders arguing before Congress that American Jews were white and needed to be treated as such.

For those in my TL who followed a discussion in which a Usenet era (c. 1989-91) document introducing modern Hermetic (as distinct from Jewish) Kabbalah in relatively accessible terms was discussed: unfortunately, the source found in that thread turns out to be incomplete. Fortunately, a further search revealed that the author set the text as an illustrated PDF and offered it as a free book in 2001. If you think you're a sophisticated, smart, big ol' lefty with great politics and are actively antiracist but you think/say shit like "the actions of Israel make it less safe for Jews in the diaspora" or some such bullshit... let me tell you that you're either a complete fucking idiot and/or bigoted against Jews (posssibly both).

Whether you think you're doing it or not, you're creating a social environment where it's justified to take actions against Jews as punishment for what's happening in another country.

I don't care if we're antizionist, non-zionist, post-zionust, zionist, Israeli expats, or whatever.

Stop helping to create the conditions where it is acceptable to isolate, target, or attack Jews.
