Thinking of setting up a pedal board for solo acoustic shows versus one of those multi-fx things. What do people think? Multi-fx I get recall and it's cheaper. It's also a single point of failure and if something goes wrong during the show, I might be on my knees messing with settings.

Separate pedals I have no recall, but it's conceptually simpler. I expect my vocal/acoustic guitar needs (harmonizer, reverb, eq) are small enough that it would be okay?

Sometimes I end up on “EDC” Reddit, and it never disappoints. One person said they think their Swiss Army Knife is the best thing to carry day to day, and someone non-ironically said that unless you could use it to fashion a shelter in the woods, gut a fish, and skin a deer, it's not good enough. Dollars to donuts that guys every day involves sitting at a computer.

I'm not pro private jet or a Swifty, but I don't get the focus on Taylor Swift. She's not even in the top ten for celebrity private jet CO2 emissions.

I'd also argue that as the biggest celebrity in the world, she's one of the few people for whom commercial travel is not really an option. I'm not saying it's impossible, but can you imagine if people knew Taylor was in an airport or on a flight? It would be inconvenient and potentially unsafe for everyone.

Anyone remember the Fitbit Zip? I kind of want one of those for Apple Health.

A non-watch based health tracker that’s affordable seems out of the question, so easy automatic step tracking that works when I don’t have my phone in my pocket would be a fine compromise.

It's rare to find a screen in one of Apple's big important apps that appear to have not been touched for many years, which is why I'm always excited to see one. There's nothing wrong with this screen in Pages for setting custom layout sizes (other than these button styles not matching), but it definitely feels like it's from another time.

It’s so strange that if your package doesn’t show up when it is due, the policy does not usually seem to be that you’re put into the highest priority for the next day, but weirdly a lower one?

They say there’s no perfect watch. Okay then, explain the Seiko metronome watch.

So if Apple is partnering with OpenAI, and training these models uses a lot of energy/carbon, do they just not acknowledge that, because technically it’s OpenAI training the models?

It feels like if they did another corny mother nature skit, but didn’t bring that up at all that would be kind of sketchy.

I'm not really sure why Apple would update the Apple TV? I don't think they're ever going to reposition it as a real gaming device, and otherwise It already does everything it needs to and has USB-C.

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

The problems I have with Apple TV are all software problems that a hardware update wouldn't help at all.

  1. Their multi-user thing is terrible and not very useful. Users should each have their own home screen layout and app data for login and whatnot.

  2. All the third party streaming apps range in quality from bad to god awful.

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@adarsh it’s a lot better than the old terrible remote though, and probably as good as we are ever going to get. I can’t imagine them thinking that ever needs to be updated.

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@adarsh I mean, yeah, it’s not great. The silver one is a lot better than the previous black one though. I got a little holder for it I could stick an AirTag in 😂

I wrote a simple app a long time ago for creating set lists. I wonder if something like that but with a lot more features could be a good idea now. It would be a pretty easy app to make with SwiftUI and SwiftData, theoretically.

Creating a setlist in Numbers like this is actually kind of a neat idea. I've never recorded the length of my songs, but it couldn't hurt.

My son got a taste of what it is to go not only to the DMV, but going there as a non US citizen.

Sent back home because he needed a mail at his name, even if he is a minor. Who daf$ck has utility bills at 15??

They also said he needed a birth certificate. I, based on my grand experience of delightful appointments to the DMV, decided not to take one. Son was mAAAd af.

@aurelie_verrot it’s the worst place

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@aurelie_verrot I'm sure there are grumpy folks who work there, but I've generally had the people be really nice. It's just always some ridiculous reason the system won't let them help me and I have to come back.

People of #Portland. I am playing a show on June 14th 8pm at The Snug (6806 NE Broadway).

You can hear my music on my Instagram (@fishermansporch). I’m also playing with a couple of other folks who are great.

Come and I will buy you a beer of your choice.

If Ben and Adam (#GreatestGen & #GreatestTrek) take another show to series, I think Battlestar Galactica isnot the way to go, and they should do Stargate.

Here's my reasoning. Battlestar has 76 episodes total. Not enough for a new podcast. It's extremely self serious. It's violent. It has horrible sexual assault. It's a good show, but it's not a fun show.

Between SG-1 and spinoffs, there’s 334 Stargate episodes. And it's total ham and cheese — perfect fit for their humor.

Sometimes I don't mind when something takes batteries, because it means it won't be useless in two years. If the batteries are going to last like a year, I think I prefer it.

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@rgm Yeah. For me, if a single coin cell is going to last a year or more, and this isn't something that is going to go out of date in that time anyway, a replaceable battery means I may never need to buy a new thing and creates less e-waste in the end.

For example, I got a new remote camera trigger for my iPhone. My old one from like three years ago stopped working, presumably because of the battery. This one has a coin cell, I can't imagine ever needing to replace it unless it's lost.

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@rgm AirTags are another good example. At this point we'd all be throwing out the ones we bought when they came out, even though it's entirely possible that this model lasts years more.

Are any Apple blogs covering the new/leaving movies rotating through Apple TV+ each month?

Not the originals, but just regular movies that Apple has been licensing the last few months.

I saw them the first two months, but nothing for June.

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@patrice @matthewcassinelli I would actually love a blog or even YouTube channel that just did a recap of what’s new on Apple TV+. I know their stuff tends to be high-quality, but there’s just so much of it.

I wonder what a flavor of Markdown for writing song lyrics might look like?

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@songpro @mistersql Oh cool. I haven't seen this one. I've seen ChordPro. This is pretty close to how I write things now except I annotation sections the same way I do chords. I also use embedded YAML at the top instead of what's going on there.

This looks generally nice, but those variables at the top are very much not it for me.
