I'm using on my phone, using as location service.
Now hearing that will shut down its location provider, I checked my settings and noticed I can't choose the installed location backends like https://f-droid.org/packages/helium314.localbackend/ anymore. Only a swipe for Mozilla and one for local storage.
Is this local backend now integrated, and is this change by or microg, that I can't choose more backends anymore?

@Menel It was a change by microG to fix long-standing location issues and we are working with them on a solution moving forward to address mozilla's announcement

We are excited to announce the latest update of @calyxos includes built-in real time malware and stalkerware scanning using malware signatures from @CitizenLab from "research on targeted attacks on civil society organizations", from @AmnestyTech "investigations in targeted threats against human rights defenders" and stalkerware database from @AssoEchap, a hacker-feminist collective that fights against the use of technology in gender-based and sexual violence.

The software that enables the malware scanning is called Hypatia and is produced by @divested Any new installation of CalyxOS from this version forward will be offered Hypatia during the initial set-up wizard. Older CalyxOS installations can add the software from @fdroidorg manually. We hope to promote the protection of endangered groups and individuals including civil society, human rights defenders, journalists, women and others.

The difference is the intention to include it in the OS, along with things like: support for encrypted signal calls in the dialer, panic functionality, client-side encrypted backups via seedvault etc. It's that we are trying to build a Mobile OS that curates a collection of FOSS tools which embodies "privacy by design" and makes privacy easier for average, less technical people

Huge announcement ! @calyxos is now available for the Motorola G32, G42 and G52 ! Why is this a big deal ? Because it helps us further our mission of making available to the maximum amount of people around the world as we can..

Google Pixel phones are the default and easiest phones to support while maintaining the security model with a locked boot loader and full verified boot. But they are only sold in around a dozen countries around the world.. and are not cheap

So there is a lack of accessibility to folks in the #GlobalSouth in particular. These Motorolas cost around half of what the budget versions of Pixel phones cost and are sold in many countries in continents where Pixels are not, including in #SouthAmerica #Asia and #MENA

The First #CalyxOS based on #Android14 is available for testing. We're releasing it for Pixel 6a as that's our most popular phone & all of our developers have at least one. It’ll be available for Pixel 5 and newer next week, depending on how testing goes

Picks up old Pixel thinking I can learn about privacy focused OS’s like @GrapheneOS but the device is too old 😩 then tried to install @calyxos but it doesn’t support M1 Mac’s and needs gatekeeper messed with

It's not that we don't support the Apple silicon, it's that our installer relies on Google's platform tools and they may or may not work correctly on the m1 / m2 CPU's. You can try
