Figured out how to use Nikkor E (electronic aperture control) lenses on 35mm Nikon cameras 👀

(You have to use a compatible camera to set the aperture to the lowest F number and then detach the lens without turning off the camera.)

This was my first time shooting the new CineStill 400D and, yep, there it is. I love that look. That quiet eeriness as if from a suspense film.

@joesteel Well, in terms of the FTZII adapter, it works great! Really, nothing to say other than it does its job.

One thing to notice is that, having two mounts between the lens and the camera means the usual amount of play a lens has with the body while latched is doubled, which means the lens might feel lose if you twist it. It's a bit scary at first, but I haven't found it to be a problem in practice.

Is there any specific aspect of it you're curious about?

@joesteel The biggest sore point with both FTZ and FTZII adapters is that they do not have an AF motor, and so only AF-S and AF-P lenses will support autofocus. AF and AI lenses will work but will be manual focus only. However with focus peaking enabled, focusing AF lenses is a breeze. (However I will do admit if there's one thing that I regret with not getting an FX DSLR it's this.) This is a photo I took using an AF 50mm ƒ1.8 lens:

@joesteel I think you're at a great spot to upgrade to a Z camera then. Also, the newest AF-P 70-300 VR is very light, the autofocus is insanely fast, and it's likely my favourite lens. And you can get it new for under US$ 600.

My uninformed guess is that at some point it was called a mechanism, which got abbreviated to “mech.” and folks started calling it a “mechanic” when unaware of the other potential meaning.

I used to live in Glasgow southside and drove this way to work three days per weeek.

@TOrynski reminds me of the 11-ft-8 bridge in the US which was hit so frequently for years that a guy installed a webcam to record the crashes. Then they regraded the rail line going above the bridge which raised it by 14 inches… and trucks still hit it lol

@mattblaze My guess is this could be somethings simple as a generational/cultural gap (on their part). People not used to interacting with others from different backgrounds are likely not used to have to tune their social cue-o-meters to match the person they're interacting with.
