Ich traue mich in privaten Gesprächen nie, solche Verbindungen direkt aufzuzeigen, aus Angst wie ein Verschwörungsschwurbler zu klingen. Just drove 124km at 73 km/h avg speed (only a short segment on the Autobahn), used 13.5 kWh/100km or ~1.5L/100km (235mpg). The efficiency of EVs is remarkable. Oh and 69%(nice) charge left off the 99% charge at start. 🖖

I'm going through various AI coding helpers for a few months now. I want to keep an open mind and understand if there's something really mind-blowingly helpful. But so far, I haven't found anything that is more than "nice to have". I think it's also a lot about the tasks that we need to solve at @getkirby Coding speed is never really an issue. That's why I don't massively profit from autocompletion help. The obstacles are always conceptual questions. Did you find anything indispensable for you?

@getkirby I also always judge the outcome by the amounts of energy that are put into LLMs and I can't stop that. If the result is "nice" I'm just not ok with that. It has to be way, way more than just nice.

@paulcox @getkirby That's the point. Writing code is very often essential to get to the result. It's part of the thought process.

@stefan I also cancelled Copilot when the trial period ended. It was sometimes nice, but not "10 € per month" nice and I had the same impression as you: when the results are wrong, cleaning it up turns into such a frustrating chore.

@paulca @getkirby That's my impression as well. There are still so many ifs. A bit like in the recent reviews of the Humane AI pin or the Rabbit thing. "It's still totally underwhelming in a lot of daily tasks now, but just imagine what the future will look like."

@armstrong @paulca Don't get me wrong. I really see applications that are impressive. Getting started with new languages is definitely pretty helpful. I feel like you get most mileage out of it in cases when you would normally hit Stack Overflow first.

@reichenstein @marcthiele We should found a fan club. He does a really good job at this. He's the only tech reviewer I'm still watching regularly. I'm really no longer interested in the entire genre of tech reviews - or new tech in general. But his videos are far more than just that. His conclusions always contain very interesting thoughts on the future, on the role of tech in our lives, on quality, pricing etc, etc.

@reichenstein @marcthiele … and he's spot on about the broken state of new overpromising product launches. The narrative of new revolutionary tech has been shoved down our throats for so long and it really all seems to implode now. Those companies cannot go back. They have to play the game of "the next big thing" and reality vs. the expectations that they build is drifting further and further apart.

@reichenstein @marcthiele @frankrausch I totally agree. It might be a bit oversimplified, but he's like a perfect bullshit filter. He takes away the excitement and lets you have a calm, reflected look at the promises and the results. He's always drilling down to the potential and that keeps his videos fair. Even with the worst products, he tries to see where they could lead. He sometimes seems to me like the voice of reason in an industry that's completely bonkers.

There's an upcoming election for a new mayor in our town and the candidates introduced themselves to a couple hundred people this week.

It was so interesting to see the reactions to the different styles of speeches. Populism works fascinatingly well, even on such a small scale.

If you have no idea of the matter, just be an energetic speaker and be bold in your statements. You will get most of the applause. Nobody cares if your statements are true.

I hate politics so much right now.
