@irfan There's an 'API' that uses Puppeteer to simulate WhatsApp web. It's not perfect tho, since WhatsApp keeps changing their damn web UI.

@irfan WhatsApp basically exposes a very annoyingly barebones API (with fees), but allows 3rd parties to re-sell it, so companies like Twilio add a lot of useful features.

It's not ridiculously expensive, but the costs add up pretty quickly, so I used the very unstable easily broken FOSS one for a while.

@irfan It can break at a critical moment, but the developer community on their Github is pretty quick at offering pull requests. The maintainer however... is not quick at pulling fixes.

Is it just a mistake to expect a game to be ready once it's done downloading from Steam and not have yet another download start once I open it for the first time?

@dopey_kun Lots of game engines work this way (e.g. Unity), because it allows games to be somewhat modular.

They would then be able to apply patches and small fixes on the fly, and big changes would be from updated from the distributor app stores.

An example of that uses this is stuff like Leagues or Season Passes... or In-App purchases :meowcrying:

I guess Steam could provide such features as well if enough demand is there :meowShrug: Maybe Epic could do such a feature since they own Fortnite, but I have my doubts...

There's very little monetary incentive. It's usually only done if it helps game performance or to squeeze onto a disc. Most developers won't spend time optimizing, because they literally don't have the time to. Steam/PlayStation Store don't charge for game file size anyway.

Only in the old days you'd get a miracle of a programmer optimizing gen 2 to have space to fit the whole gen 1 inside.

I remember in the good olde days where mobile apps had a size cap that forced it to be downloaded on WiFi only and my boss forced us to optimize to fit.

To be unfair Tiktok/YT Shorts are clickbait AF, so they're just abusing hashtags to growth hack. The 'meaning' of stuff in that kind of fast moving format can change very quickly from the dictionary meaning.

@dopey_kun Not using React 19's new form hooks yet, still using React-Hook-Form for that while it's cooking.

React 18's new hooks are use-specific and are targeted to libraries, so nothing so far. Redux doesn't like useSyncExternalStore.

I'm mainly playing with Suspense. Finally React stuff can do partial pre-rendering properly!

@dopey_kun Ah, I've just been forced to use usePathname and useParams to do that trick like how Anilist does /anime/[id]/[title]/ to auto rewrite the title.

I mean, it's quite a trick to figure out that I needed to do the page as a layout under [id]/layout and do the redirecting in /[title]/page :ablobcatreachflip: but it definitely improves performance.

This transition shot in S3E9 is so random. It's a escaped dog with its leash flapping running across a street (left to right) to transition into Kumiko getting home (left to right). 📽️ ✂️

It's a transition on action, but cutting away from Kumiko to a rando dog is... :meowShrug: More animal content for me, but a little out of point.

When looking up the places in Akihabara, there's a maid cafe in Akihabara Denpan Kaikan called

アキバなら異世界メイドがお給仕したって問題ないよねっ！

(In Akiba, there is no problem even if a maid from another world serves you!)
