Hm, so because I am so eager to understand things I know have the task to explain #NeighborDiscoveryProtocol of #IPv6 tomorrow.

From what I understand, I can think of multicast of like topics in MQTT:
One sender and whoever is interested can read from it. New hosts are subscribed to it when they go online.

By setting certain flags in #ICMPv6 their are messages for routers and neighbors. One for request and a matching respond (called solicitation and advertisement).

Now I would love to have a #SysAdmin confirm my understanding.

#AskInfoSec I'm trying to wrap my head around security aspects of IPv6 protocol.

From what I've learned that now my networking devices have a public IP address (unlike with IPv4 which would have to be port translated at the router).

In order to talk to a service I still will need a port next to the IP address.

Does that mean that every device in the network should have a firewall? Or can I still have one at the router level handle everything?

My fear is that a router could be easily bypassed.

But GoToSocial appears not to be supported yet. Are there technical reasons?
It should be fairly compatible to Mastodon in its API.

Dear @zachleat,

when I was introducing https://reuse.software/ to a project the other day I took the time to research the foundries and who they name for copyright in their #OFL 1.1 licensed web fonts.

Do you happen to know how the license applies to subsetted fonts?
Whome should I put into the copyright?
On the one hand I'm still using the glyphs as created by the country. On the other hand arranging them into a new font is a creative act.

I understand that you are not a lawyer but I wondered whether it crossed your path in the past.

Built my first #Tauri app today.

That's a #Rust framework for turning web applications into „native“ apps.

From what I can tell, somewhat similar to #Electron, but hopefully more secure.

Anyway, compiling Rust crates isn't fun. Will likely defer to some machine soon for this.

I'm very much a fan of interpreted languages.

I broke a little with #SvelteKit idioms here insofar as I have Pages merely pass a context object into a #Svelte component.

This in turn allows me to utilise #Storybook to describe the interface in different configurations (I have tests in place as well).

It's still early days but we tackle one page at a time to build up this #Federated #Forge (F2 for short).

In case you are interested in translating, hit me up. Be warned that things might move around or get dropped. I prefer early feedback to easily correct course if needed.

Our Western world is eaten by software.
I'm a software developer. So I'm in a privileged position to help shape the world. I feel like I'm doing that already to a very small degree - even though I can't make a living of it.

I learned about a new term next to #Dystopia and #Utopia — #Ustopia.

A vision of the future in which the community is in power - not some tech elitists.

I want to go in this direction.

Once again I hear echoes of what @smallcircles emphasises but I can't wrap my head around just yet: it depends on the social fabric.

I see that capitalism exploits people to their teeth. I see a trend towards militarism. Police receiving more and more power, the state surveilling its citizens.

On the other hand, communities banding together and helping each other.

I believe: if we work together, we can build a future that helps all of us. Let's go there!

Slightly (ahem) frustrated that my #Svelte component behaves differently than the example component in #Storybook.

Couldn't figure out why the docstring and type wasn't extracted. The args aren't even shown as properties!

I'm sure it's something stupidly simple.
But I don't see it 🙈

I discovered a glitch in the Matrix!

A situation so unlikely I never considered it possible!

There is no #npm package for generating #Gemtext (for #Gemini resp. #Gopher)!

The closest I could find is a parser from 2020.

Plus plenty of cryptocurrency garbage.

Excuse me, there's a framework waiting to be written 😸

(If you want to turn Markdown into Gemtext, recommendations go to a Python package)

Troubleshooting be like:

Run tests: green.
Update dependencies.
Run tests: red for ⅓ of them.

With unrelated error messages because something crashed ten lines above what stack trace logs.
