Watched Rose Ayling-Ellis: Signs for Change on iPlayer tonight. I grew up wearing hearing aids in a hearing world and never had chance to sign - it was an emotional watch.

I burst into tears when she spoke to her mum about going to a hearing school and said how hard she had to work to keep up because reading and writing is entirely taught from approach of hearing sound. My hearing was just about good enough to get by at school, but it was draining…and I can now see why.

Tonight the vet came to ease Puppy's passing. He took a sudden turn for the worse 48 hours ago.

Born 8 May 2008, he lived a loving, happy life. He was there for me during difficult times - lying at my feet when I worked starting my consultancy, there as a comfort during a difficult divorce, and there to watch me as I rediscovered gardening. He was happy to see me when I came home from work trips or just going to the store.

He was, above all, a Good Boy, but more than that, he was the Best Boy. He was my friend.

We have a new carpet being fitted in the living room tomorrow.

The carpet shop said we can take the old carpet up ourselves, or the fitters will do it for an extra £50.

So of course we've spent today taking up the old carpet! The living room looks so bleak now, completely empty other than the wifi router (and that ain't going nowhere, let me tell you!)
