Amin is short for Benjamin. I just launched an independent search engine into public beta: https://clew.se

Life is truly a journey. Mine began in Bakersfield, California, but three months later took me to northern Afghanistan 🇦🇫. I took the scenic route through India 🇮🇳 and Malaysia 🇲🇾, and am currently braving a four-year foray through higher education at Texas A&M University, studying Communication and Professional Writing. Along the way I've learned musicmaking, storytelling, the art of performance, and technological mastery.

Wanna see where my journey takes me next?

I'd kinda like to get back into music composition, but… when I look at it I think Musescore is going down the "enshittification" process and I no longer have any desire to use it.

Are there any good FOSS alternatives?

Staying in a house with a new puppy is an experience; one of the symptoms is getting up in the middle of the night for a drink and stepping in a fresh poop on your floor. :)

…why is someone trying to load /wp-admin.php on one of my domains? That page doesn't even exist, I don't use Wordpress.

Sometimes watching Apache's logs can be fun, like seeing someone using newsboat checking https://tty1.blog's feed, but other times it's just sad. :P

Wow, the musescore site is way worse than I remember. Impossible to download anything without giving them your credit card information?

We've reached the point in the advertising industry that the biggest monetary value of an ad is to annoy users into paying to remove ads. Which means advertising design favors annoying, inaccessible "promotions" of products.

Honestly, it makes me feel sorry for the advertisers, a little bit, they're certainly not getting what they're expecting from their money. In my eyes they're often being swindled just like users are.

Agree or disagree with me, but can we at least agree that the advertising "industry" is pretty messed up?

The stars come out each night
	to sing

Their song is of love
	of hope

Listen

Forget

For a moment, you can put aside
	your fears

In this moment, forget your failure
	and regret

Listen

Remember

Recall who you were long ago
	a child

As the stars sing, remember
	your innocence

Listen

Heal

My coreutils article is up to 3,145 words and counting. And I've covered most of the simple utilities by now. :P

Attention anyone I work with in the future: when I say I'm free until 17:10, that does not mean I'm willing to start our video call at 17:00.

A site just gave me a raw link to a m3u8 file as plain text… I think they meant to do something with it, but it just sat there. I passed the link to yt-dlp, and it figured out what it meant and is downloading me several videos of recording sessions of an artist I like's upcoming album. Very neat!

What's the first piece of software you were a "power user" of?

For me it was Microsoft Office 2003, when I was an ~8yo (which was in 2012; my parents didn't get a newer copy until a lot later). I knew that thing perhaps better than I know neovim now.

All of my interest in computers and coding branched out of there, when I look back.

Now that my eleventy site is up and running on Codeberg... How can I change the theme? I kinda like the one @cjerrington has, but also like readable.css theme changer XD

@orbitalmartian @cjerrington
There's some possible accessibility concerns I'm considering with my theme changer right now… once I'm done figuring that out I think I'll be publishing the theme changer as a standalone thing that's easier to drag-and-drop into your site.
