If someone made a mastodon or pixelfed instance, built it up, and kept the fediverse connection but added exclusive stuff, it'd be well received by the fedi community, I think.
But Meta did it, and that's probably why there's a bunch of instances blocking them.
@mike, why don't you weigh in? Wdu think?

@mike I agree, I'd exclusively post on VERO if I had more if my friends were on it or I'd try to compete if I had more resources, but alas, I use instagram in particular. Never Facebook because that's where the majority of controversy is rooted.

#NHLJets If you ever wanted an example of how tone deaf the Winnipeg Jets organization has become it's their social media blitz today celebrating Brad Lambert and the Seattle Thunderbirds who won the WHL championship over the Winnipeg Ice. I guess it's "he's our boy so screw you community based team who we have no financial interest in". I'm absolutely livid. This organisation will reap what it sows and it'll be tragic.

I'm loath to enter the BlueSky discussion but here we are. Blue Sky has a fatal flaw that won't be uncovered while in beta:

Algorithms can't moderate.

People easily gamed Twitter's algorithms to gain popularity. They'll have twice the motivation to game moderation algorithms on Blue Sky.

Moderation issues are what killed Twitter and many other large centralized social media outlets are currently sagging under that weight.

Distributed moderation is why the fediverse will win..
