Sorry, but non-designated initializers have to go in order to prevent silly bugs.

Man2Dev,

@karolherbst I'm surprised they have been supported so far

I've been saying Neofetch was dead for years, good job catching up. It's a great project on it's technical merits but being written in bash script it's always been one of the slower options there are so many other great implementations nowadays https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1cga3q4/neofetch_development_discontinued_repository/

Man2Dev,

@yaldi @BrodieOnLinux just use fastfetch

I'm really curious to see what happens with Ben Skeggs being at Nvidia, yet still submitting patches to Nouveau. It would be weird if this wasn't being done in an official capacity, but Nvidia traditionally has pretty much ignored the project.

Man2Dev,

@BrodieOnLinux Maybe there has been a change at the management level

me a couple of years ago: native Linux games are the only ones that matter.

Me today: oh boi, lemme run this game through wine as it runs much better than "native".

Man2Dev,

@karolherbst is it becasuse the game engines don't have good support for Linux or because the game devs just don't want to optimize their game for an additional platform?

Man2Dev,

@kde @kde just upgraded my #arch :arch: device to #Plasma6 congrats on a smooth release on Arch

Man2Dev,

@Lenni @kde @kde well Arch is fundamentally made with customization and bleeding edge in mind, so they are well-versed at dealing with packaging conflicts.

The best part about being an open source maintainer is the copious amounts of free advice you get from people who know better than you what your project should do. /s

Man2Dev,

@bagder :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: is the top one rewrite curl in rust?

bagder, to random
@bagder@mastodon.social avatar

When we ship #curl 8.6.0 on Wednesday we will also reveal the details about CVE-2024-0853. A severity low issue (that would not have been avoided by us using another language).

Man2Dev,

@nogweii @bagder I wish github would collect how many issues have been opened on there platform, which basically just say: rewrite it in Rust :rofl:

bagder, to random
@bagder@mastodon.social avatar

When we ship #curl 8.6.0 this Wednesday it has gone 9942 days since the first httpget release that kicked everything off.

During these 9942 days, we have recorded 9886 bugfixes.

Both counters now very close to 10K. I bet the bugfix one reaches there first.

Man2Dev,

@bagder how do you track all these precise data?

drewdevault, to random
@drewdevault@fosstodon.org avatar

Honestly, font selection is proving to be one of the more difficult parts of what I'm working on so far

Man2Dev,

@drewdevault thats why so many people just use the Noto font

@bagder@mastodon.social avatar
Man2Dev,

@bagder congratulations, hopefully now you won't have to deal with stupid CVE anymore. But this just occurred to me wouldn't this make this a conflict of interest?

Man2Dev,

@bagder yes

bagder, to random
@bagder@mastodon.social avatar

Current size of the #curl(1) man page: 6,232 lines.

It documents all 258 command line options.

Man2Dev,

@bagder two more and it will be an even 260

On this day, 15 years ago the http-state working group was created in . https://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2009/01/09/ietf-http-state-group-created/

27 months later the cookie RFC 6265 was published: https://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2011/04/28/the-cookie-rfc-6265/

This spec is now being revised. The latest draft is called -13 and lives here: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-ietf-httpbis-rfc6265bis-13

Man2Dev,

@bagder well it took 15 years but atleast some one is trying to fix the mess that is cookies

bagder, to random
@bagder@mastodon.social avatar

Please don't make this a new trend. 😕

(issue closed by bot because the user filing the issue has not starred the repository...)

Man2Dev,

@bagder when @BrodieOnLinux made the video on how bots closing issues might be problem, I thought isn't he overreacting. I guess I was wrong

Man2Dev,

@BrodieOnLinux are you going to switch?

BrodieOnLinux, to random

I worry about the next Fedora KDE release, I don't expect all of these problems to be resolved by then and if they're not you're going to have a lot of forum posts from artists on your hands. https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/18ggn30/shortcomings_and_regressions_in_plasma_6_wayland/

Man2Dev,

@BrodieOnLinux technicaly speaking they can just not upgrade to fedora 40, fedora 39 (which, does ship with X11) is supported utill 07/Dec/2024. Hopefully the problems will be fixed by then.

Later on I'll be speaking to Karol Herbst who's involved in NVK, Nouveau and Rusticl, let me know if you guys have any pressing questions you'd like answered

Man2Dev,

@BrodieOnLinux where to start learning rust for driver development?

I thought it was really weird that Valve devs were spending a lot of time working on HDR when the only device they it would matter on didn't support it, now we know why.

PS. I may also have Steam Deck OLED on the way

""Mastering #libcurl" starts on November 16 with part 1. I just reached 170 slides (!) in the full presentation. And I'm not done yet...

https://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2023/11/01/mastering-libcurl/

Man2Dev,

@bagder had question can the people attending through the zoom call receive an certificate of attendance or something equivalent to it? just asking because I'm trying to build up a CV

@bagder@mastodon.social avatar

A proposal to add support to

https://curl.se/mail/lib-2023-10/0073.html

I'm not convinced:
https://curl.se/mail/lib-2023-10/0074.html

Let the discussion flow!

Man2Dev,

@bagder can't you just allow it as experimental feature for now and just depricated if the code is abandoned is not up to curl standards

Man2Dev,

@bagder I just skimmed through spec sheet and I guess you're right if you technically don't need it in libcurl to make ipfs work then by adding pointless code its just making another attack surface for libcurl
