Isn't it funny how two-faced our politics and society can be?
On the one hand, the government won't pay my unemployed spouse out of work benefit because we're married - half of my income belongs to him.
On the other hand, the government taxes me at a higher rate because my income is mine alone. What about the half that apparently belongs to my husband? Is it not calculated according to his status? No.
Q. Is my income mine or his?
A. It depends; whichever benefits HMRC/DWP.

One could make it more complete by creating a new specialized multiplication handle for int/float, similar to what addition does. (As + in PHP is not always commutative (because array "addition")).
