@whitequark it’s not wrong when you understand that both tools operate at different layers in the network stack.
A lot of network cards do hardware offloading, things like checking the CRC is valid etc before passing the packet to the kernel driver. Ethtool is querying the hardware directly for these counters.
The ip tool is querying the network stack in the kernel.
@whitequark In cases like checksum failure, the network chip will drop the packet in hardware and increment its hardware counter. It won’t forward a corrupt packet to the network stack, and thus the network stack will never know about the checksum failure or corrupt packet.
@whitequark for simple network hardware that doesn’t have fancy hardware offload, the network stack in the kernel has to perform these checks in software instead and this is what the stats from ip are showing.
#DeepComputing has made a RISC-V #laptop that actually seems reasonable usable! (think basic office needs) They're also working on a Workstation with a 64-core CPU, also #RISCV!
@gregorni at close to $3000 for that laptop, I’ll skip, same for the workstation. Go check out the Pinetab-V ($200) or the Milk-V pioneer ($1500) for something available today.
Another Week - Another new image for #pinetabv (and #star64) - Kernel Version Bumps, Package Bumps in this release. Also, last actual release for PtV for a while, as now the images can be upgraded via "apt upgrade" online.
Major Changes for PtV include sound (enable it in settings), a updated kernel version 5.15.127 with the latest Starfive Vendor patches, improved EMMC performance, and a few thousand additional packages available via apt!
For those using my plasma images for #PineTabV - new images have just been uploaded fixing charger and power issues, touchpad and a few other things. Grab the latest image here: https://pine64.my-ho.st:8443/pinetabv/ (GitHub has more details on the changes) #pine64#riscv
Hey @PINE64 and other #Pine64 community folks and fans, does anyone know if I can get the PineTab with a keyboard, so I can use it like a netbook with a touchscreen?
@PINE64@strypey you should take note that wifi/Bluetooth and Camera are not working yet on PineTab2. Devs are working on the drivers but it could be weeks/months before it’s ready.
@yakkoj in Singapore the fire department just let EV vehicles burn to the ground. They claim the placement of the batteries in most EV cars, and the difficulty in extinguishing a EV fire is more dangerous than just letting it burn!
