Fishwaldo, to milkv

Just updated my Debian images for MilkV DuoS support.
Many thanks @tllim and #sophgo for giving me a DuoS board to get this done.

did you know: the iproute2 ip -s link is (quite possibly) lying to you

left: statistics printed by iplink. no rx ... anything. no errors no nothing
right: actual statistics printed by ethtool, showing some actual issues

Fishwaldo,

@whitequark it’s not wrong when you understand that both tools operate at different layers in the network stack.

A lot of network cards do hardware offloading, things like checking the CRC is valid etc before passing the packet to the kernel driver. Ethtool is querying the hardware directly for these counters.
The ip tool is querying the network stack in the kernel.

Fishwaldo,

@whitequark In cases like checksum failure, the network chip will drop the packet in hardware and increment its hardware counter. It won’t forward a corrupt packet to the network stack, and thus the network stack will never know about the checksum failure or corrupt packet.

Fishwaldo,

@whitequark for simple network hardware that doesn’t have fancy hardware offload, the network stack in the kernel has to perform these checks in software instead and this is what the stats from ip are showing.

I just pushed some big updates to my #PinetabV and #Star64 plasma images. If you are already running and want to upgrade please see the release notes here: https://github.com/Fishwaldo/meta-pine64/releases/tag/v2.1 #pine64 #RISCV

#DeepComputing has made a RISC-V #laptop that actually seems reasonable usable! (think basic office needs) They're also working on a Workstation with a 64-core CPU, also #RISCV!

Fishwaldo,

@gregorni at close to $3000 for that laptop, I’ll skip, same for the workstation. Go check out the Pinetab-V ($200) or the Milk-V pioneer ($1500) for something available today.

Just sent 48TB of data from my old office to new office in less than 10 mins. Is that a record?

Another Week - Another new image for #pinetabv (and #star64) - Kernel Version Bumps, Package Bumps in this release. Also, last actual release for PtV for a while, as now the images can be upgraded via "apt upgrade" online.
Major Changes for PtV include sound (enable it in settings), a updated kernel version 5.15.127 with the latest Starfive Vendor patches, improved EMMC performance, and a few thousand additional packages available via apt!

Grab it from https://github.com/Fishwaldo/meta-pine64/releases/tag/v2.0

Hey @PINE64 and other #Pine64 community folks and fans, does anyone know if I can get the PineTab with a keyboard, so I can use it like a netbook with a touchscreen?

#PineTab

Fishwaldo,

@strypey @PINE64 the pinetab2 comes with a keyboard cover.

Fishwaldo,

@PINE64 @strypey you should take note that wifi/Bluetooth and Camera are not working yet on PineTab2. Devs are working on the drivers but it could be weeks/months before it’s ready.

Fishwaldo,

@strypey I don’t think the original PineTab is available. People currently are using a wifi usb dongle.

WHY on earth do fire departments show up to a battery EV fire with WATER

There has got to be something more appropriate than dousing the whole burning pile with a compound that makes it react MORE.

Fishwaldo,

@yakkoj in Singapore the fire department just let EV vehicles burn to the ground. They claim the placement of the batteries in most EV cars, and the difficulty in extinguishing a EV fire is more dangerous than just letting it burn!

My KDE Plasma Image for the #PineTabV is now available for testing. Still lots to fix up but this has full GPU desktop acceleration, and feels responsive, even running from a SD card. Check https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PineTab-v for details. #pine64 #riscv @PINE64 @pine64eu
