Visited the Bronx Zoo today with my buddy Chris and we had a blast. I haven't been since 2017 so a lot of it felt fresh.

We made it over the bridge right after rush hour this morning and then got back to LI right around 3:30p. Missing all of the day's traffic was the cherry on top.

A zebra grazing in some green grass.
A male lion lying on its back with its legs spread wide. It is sunning itself and napping.
A zoomed shot of a brightly-colored male peacock sitting on a walkway.

As a professional jewelry person I'd recommend Zuck try being a brooch guy.

Nobody trusts a thin gold chain guy.
Everyone loves brooch guy tho.

Although this theory has not been tested on guys that facilitate genocide.

And HE said “blessed are those who seed torrents even when no one else will.” This is the word of our LORD. Amen.

Just downloaded a 13GB file overnight thanks to one (1) single seeder.

Dylan,
@Dylan@weird.autos avatar

That file was the full season of "The Good Lord Bird" starring Ethan Hawke as the man himself, John Brown.

Been wanting to see this since it debuted in 2020.

Bless this single seeder.

I can't believe I've gotten to the point where I am super thankful for software you can pay for once and use infinitely.

Pixelmator Pro -- IDK how you can keep producing updates for already good software for a one time app store price of 49.99 but thanks

VueScan -- how do you run my ancient Minolta 35mm film scanner?? I use you 3 times a year you always update and get slightly better and never ask me for more money. Thanks

Dylan,
@Dylan@weird.autos avatar

@dan
+1 for the Pixelmator team. I use Photomator almost every day and it's constantly getting better through updates. Plus it runs fast as hell and feels like a native app. On top of all that, their support staff is responsive and they helped squash a small bug I found recently.

All included with my initial purchase. Hopefully their funding stays solid.

Feeling a little melancholy. Today's is “Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap.

Ms. Heap clarified that the song is mainly about her parents' divorce & the surrounding events. I was a child of divorce and it hits so hard.

"Hide and Seek" is a haunting vocoder-assisted-a-cappella-ballad inhale. Gives me chills nearly every listen.

"Sinking, feeling…
Spin me 'round again and rub my eyes
This can't be happening”

(Let's not talk about the Jason Derulo sample)

EDIT: Apparently my system can't handle USB 3.2 2x2 so the test is moot.

For those who may be in the market for external SSDs…

Samsung's T7 has been a favorite of internet folks for some time. The T9 came out late last year with the promise of (up to) double the read & write speeds (2,000 MB/s!). I don't need the speed, but I was curious. Bought both drives with the intention of returning one.

Wouldn't ya know that the speeds are almost indistinguishable.

T7 Shield it is.

Dylan,
@Dylan@weird.autos avatar

@bnys I thought that might be it, but according to Apple's site all of my Mac's USB C ports support Thunderbolt 4 (up to 40Gb/s).

@bnys Ha, that's hilarious. Wonder why they skipped out on 3.2. Thanks for the clarification!

Wanted to sit down for a listening sesh with my stereo, but my cat was sitting in my chair. No problem, She always gets up for a few treats.

She ate the treats so fast and then got back in the chair while I turned on my amp.

Emmie wins. I’ll use headphones.

I’m so fucking pissed and here to vent and ask for advice. I just got my third major bubble on my vredesteins. Besides constant bubbles from potholes the tires are great.
I need to either replace all of them with michilin cross climates or I can downsize the wheels. Only problem is tire options suck downsized. Best option is DWS 06 which are great tires but not great in the snow which is the point of the AWD car.

Dylan,
@Dylan@weird.autos avatar

@Mark @Basmitharts
Indeed I did. Love them. Though I did test them in some slush very briefly and came to the conclusion that they’re nearly unusable in the snow. Not really surprising, but my lord they were SLICK.

As the weather’s been warming up I notice that the tires get significantly more grip than I remember. I normally feel like I’m on rails, but if I push it I feel like I’m on my tip toes, in a fun kinda way. Not as quick around corners as summers, but DWS06 are definitely thrilling.

Hey y’all! Jayden and I just made our first posts to our joint Masto account!

We’re using it as an outlet for some personal creativity — totally just for fun.

Anyway we’d love it if you’d check us out at some point.

I saw the in totality! It was one of the most arresting things I’ve ever seen.

There was a small crowd at the park we settled down in. As the sun faded, people began to applaud. That quickly erupted into a roar of shouts & cries of excitement as the sun transitioned to totality. Beyond special.

I’m HYPED about how my photos came out.

More thoughts and photos to come.

Cloud forecasts were saying that a large system would be moving east throughout the day. Western NY was totally screwed and it could've gone either way for us.

After a quick breakfast in Old Forge, NY, we drove another 20 minutes and arrived at Inlet. Luckily we were among the first people to arrive for the event, so parking was a breeze.

Things really couldn't have gone any better for us. Jayden took a nap in the sun while Justin & I geeked out about every aspect of our photography setups.

Any clouds cleared up just in time for the main event.

The moments of totality were something I'll do my best to remember. Not only was the visual aspect nearly unbelievalbe, but I felt totally validated by everyone else's reactions.

People were applauding, yelling, crying, and cheering. Some were in silently in awe.

I snapped a few pics at different shutter speeds, then plopped down and stared at it with my mouth agape. Couldn't help but cry. It’s the most beautiful natural event I've seen.

A very big shoutout to the small town of Inlet, NY for providing a wonderful eclipse experience. There was a food truck, plenty of public space in a lakeside park, and most importantly... bathrooms.

My criteria for a viewing location included minimal cloud cover and surrounding natural beauty. The Adirondack region proved to be a perfect spot.

We watched the cloud forecasts for days and then made a final decision at 6:30am. We hit the road 15 mins later.
