Can you suggest some soothing names/monikers for H5N1 in humans?

There are many anecdotes about people diagnosed with #dementia after a #covid infection (we have 5 in our circle in the US and Greece) in alignment with⬇️
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4716751
Shouldn't we ask the role of viruses as a cause of dementia? Is #sarscov2 just the strongest among many?

If you wondered why I’m mostly boosting humorous takes on xz drama it’s because I find almost all serious takes absolutely nauseating. So much serious thinking by people who have never maintained anything of substance in their whole life.

AI assistant, draw me what among medical circles is known as a "wallet biopsy"

ChristosArgyrop,
@ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social avatar

@EllieK the one on the left is a surgeon, the one on the right is an internist performing noninvasive biopsies

Probing the content policy limitations of the chatbots has been fun. Apparently, there is an "anything but Covid" policy that prohibits content generation in #OpenAI's #ChatGPT. Seems somewhat specific to #COVID since diabetic kidney disease, cancer, and flu are fair game. Why censor, if it's over?

This is an empirical analysis of #software errors; they involve mistakes in comprehension and "text " generation in very precise languages. Have the LLMs matched these rates?

ChristosArgyrop,
@ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social avatar

@nicolaromano These are great points. The difference is that sold engines were marketed as user driven tools, while LLMs as marketed to hype driven fools.

ChristosArgyrop,
@ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social avatar

@nicolaromano What I tell colleagues: one needs to spent a nearly equivalent amount of time cleaning up as they would if they had just hired an underexperienced, undertrained junior team member who is good at BS. You have to micromanage to get results

I asked #ChatGpt4 if one can trust #UMAP clusters when experimental validation is not possible (that would be the Nature paper #AllofUsResearch under discussion). My non-nuanced answer based on its nuanced answer is NO

Reminder that the US spends ~ 1T out of a ~4T healthcare budget on administrative functions, which involve lots of text and mouse clicking operations that increase provider burnout. It is tolerated because it is also a massive job/profits generating (pork) project

If one wants to understand what at first sight appear to be irrational health care behaviors (e.g. smoking), one must acknowledge that such behaviors lead to immediate and certain rewards, but future and uncertain risks. Hence, such behaviors may be quite rational for many ppl.
It is only at the system/societal level that risks and rewards can be integrated appropriately, and their different time horizons are aligned.

ChristosArgyrop,
@ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social avatar

Even at that level, decision-making is often narrowly focused to the next quarter, year, election cycle & suboptimal decisions are made.
Replace now health care behaviors with things like tax policy, government spending, environmental protection, occupational safety to get the bigger picture.

They will go at great lengths to calculate a bogus Number Needed to Vaccinate to suppress demand and expenses for the vaccines, but they will remain silent about the real Number Needed to Infect to cause harmful post covid condition among your kids and yourselves.

What this pandemic showed is that the so called medical conservatives are nihilists doing the bidding of corporate interests who don't want to spend money on public health or even healthcare. Their pre-pandemic skepticism was cover to avoid raising taxes to fund programs, or pay for drugs. In a nutshell, they are in the business of healthcare denial

The UK's let-the-measles-rip #FAFO will settle numerous scientific issues about the measles virus:

  1. The need for periodic revaccination of adults
  2. The breadth and duration of immunity erasure against other bugs by #measles
    Not even General Shirō Ishii of Unit 731 fame could conceive this experiment!
