Saw a cybertruck in the wild for the first time today 🤮

I think the “design” of the cyber truck was to give its owner many shiny surfaces to admire their own reflection.

Always stop for pedestrians. Because it may be your workplace’s IT guy trying to cross the street. And they may see you stop and then remember to sign-off on your new work laptop.

Biking in this morning, I had the idea of making a music video about biking in Cambridge complete with cyclists of all types dancing at stoplights. Should we do this?

The song on my head was new body rhumba by LCD Soundsystem, but if this actually happened it would be better to use music from someone local. https://youtu.be/nJblPY5hVHI?si=2eopahujj5BZzRJz

I thought the surprise $5000+ bill from the IRS was the worst part of the day… but then I was hit but a driver. Left hook, I had a green. He clipped the back of my bike.

(I’m okay, bike is okay, I’m just shaken. Yes I filed a police report, because the driver took off and I wanted it documented)

New skin care regime: Got my face sandblasted by road salt on the ride in.

I don’t recommend talking to drivers after near misses. Mostly because it may escalate things. But sometimes you also get to hear what the driver was thinking when they couldn’t just wait a minute and decided to try to pass you in the opposite travel lane, but nearly drove into oncoming bus, and then quickly pulled back into the right lane to avoid it… right where you were biking.

The Inman square intersection confuses me sometimes. I can’t tell if I don’t understand the bike signals/traffic flow… or if others are just totally ignoring the signals and forcing their way into other bike traffic that has a green.

If I’m coming south on Beacon/Hampshire and turning left onto Cambridge St on a green (with 20 other cyclists)- does eastbound Cambridge st bike traffic have a red? Because a guy just kept going and forcing his way in when there was no room, and then tried to cross in front of me in the crowded lane with absolutely no space. And I don’t want to be a jerk, but I was mostly trying to stay upright and not be the domino that takes everyone behind me out.

Ride report for cleared paths today:
Somerville: Cedar St was A+, Beacon St A-. Cambridge: Hampshire St gets a B-. Harvard/MassAve Bridge: A+. Boston MassAve, A+.

There were a few spots generally where buses & cars had pushed snow into the bike lanes as the pulled in/out of the curb area but not enough to ruin the ride. I’m concerned about water runoff pooling and freezing in the curb area in Hampshire St, keep a couple feet away from the curbs.

Not biking this week. I bike through 4 municipalities plus some DCR & DOT roads to get to work. If you have trouble trying to get your city to plow bike lanes in winter, multiply that by 6 and that’s what I’m dealing with. And each year it’s time to guess who is on top of it, and who will break my commute and leave me pushing my bike over ice mountains for miles. It’s never clear & consistent the whole way, and the unpredictability is the main issue.

What does this sign mean? Commonwealth Avenue eastbound in Kenmore Square

Bikeyface,
@Bikeyface@better.boston avatar

@streetsblogmass Bikes will use crosswalk, or bike crossing? It’s not a great sign. Plus with no rider it’s not clear if it also means dismount?

Oh no, Medford doesn’t allow bikes to be locked to parking meters and doesn’t have any bike racks. I’m trying to find out if this is “official” policy or just parking dept attitude. There no are no signs, or anything on the city website. But there are 0 bike racks most places, and tons of new meters. So what do they expect will happen?

People with heat pumps: was your electric bill insane after you got them? I plan to add more solar panels to (hopefully) cover the increased electric use, but I’m a bit nervous about what the electric bills will be in the meantime.

The good news: George st in Medford is being repaved which means they can finally stripe the bike lane. The bad news: I was nearly hit head on by a driver while I was stopped at the stop sign because she was dumbly following detour signs and rather than looking/stopping when there was clearly a person in front of her. All while a traffic cop watched and did nothing.

@Bikeyface@better.boston avatar

@qkslvrwolf Well, at least he didn’t go after me when I smacked the drivers window as she proceeded to squeeze past me with literally 2 inches of clearance.

On the way to work, I saw a large truck turn right from Mass Ave onto memorial drive and hit the “Cars Only” sign. They stopped after someone flagged them down. I thought about staying to watch the backup of shame for funsies, but I was running late. But when I got across the bridge to the Storrow drive side, I could see a bunch of staties helping another truck do the backup of shame there. So I didn’t miss out after all! @universalhub

    Just saw an 18 wheeler nearly take out the bicyclist in front of me. It was doing a hairpin turn from southbound Mass Ave on to Westland Ave. It looked like it was turning left into the Christian Sci area (Falmouth st) then the driver made a very quick and sudden right turn across all traffic, either were not looking or could not see. Trucks this big should not be allowed in a dense area, or at least need a traffic cop. #bantrucks

    @universalhub Something you may want to keep an eye on. Just got an email re: LMA saying "Please be advised of potential impacts today to the MASCO Shuttle services and traffic due to a water main break in the Fenway area and Red Sox double header."

    @meredithw @universalhub Yes it’s loads of fun here with roads shut down. Traffic on the open roads was at a standstill. Picture is Boylston @ Kilmarnock a couple hours ago.

    @universalhub or the city could fix that street so it’s not such a speeding multi-lane traffic sewer.

    Just a traffic jam of bicyclists in the rain/drizzle/mist. I was reverse commuting 😆

    @Bikeyface@better.boston avatar

    @crschmidt @bikepedantic @inliuofjoan The bike lane is already too narrow! Cyclists were trying to pass outside the bike lane but then couldn’t get back into the blocks long queue.

    My dog and I were in a crosswalk when a guy in a ginormous truck blasted through at 40+ mph in a 25 zone. But he gave a friendly wave and did not kill us, so it’s all okay, right?
