2024 gaming backlog, no.19 - You Used To Be Someone (PC)
Short interactive narrative exploring the author's depression. You don't do much other than aimlessly wander a town and muse, but that is the point after all. Wild art and perspective. A neat insight.
Short, sweet narrative about a couple taking their weird niece and her dorky boyfriend on a camping trip. Gentle, caring dialogue, beautiful faux-retro visuals, stunning sound design.
What makes a really great #videogame#adaptation stand out from lots of mediocre ones? Here's a deep dive. Tl;dr: It's not the special effects, but rather the experience. The main examples he explores are #Fallout (the ne plus ultra of adaptations) and #TheLastOfUs (which is only almost as good, mostly because the game was a bit too cinematic in the first place).

My kid has been unwell for 2 years (Long Covid), & watching her dealing with so many ups and downs & pacing herself whilst still learning & creating has been so impressive. She's doing well as a beekeeper, and now she's working with a friend to make Fortnite creative maps.
If you or your kids play Fortnite (the game is rated age 10 and up), search 'Slime Tycoon' for the most chill, fun, and wholesome gameplay experience.
@kristiedegaris It’s so hard! My kiddo got pims/misc from covid in 2022 and while she doesn’t have long covid technically we’re definitely seeing a lot of changes in energy/illness/inflammation.
It’s wonderful your kid has so many outlets for growth & happiness & that she has a mom doing such a good job taking care of her!
I'm so sorry to hear this! Long covid is just one of the many negative outcomes caused by Covid. And truthfully, it could be a more specific diagnosis for my daughter, but it's so hard to untangle, especially with no access to medical professionals knowledgeable enough to help.
I really hope your kiddo is doing OK? It's very tough as a parent to watch our kids go through these things. Much love to you all x
A surprisingly technical fighter - I expected the first in the Soul Calibur series to be a bit jankier! Slower combat than I like and dodgy voices, but an impressive set of modes and a really fun core combat system!
