#BloomScrolling I’m so sorry that I won’t be here for the daylilies this year. There was a stand here when we bought the house, but I’ve divided and divided them and planted them everywhere. They are special to me because they were my grandmother’s favorite flower. She loved to create hybrids and she had hundreds. The Macon Daylily Club used to make the hour trip each summer to her farm to see her hybrids in bloom. #Umbria June, 2022
#BloomScrolling This weekend marks one of the most special events in #Umbria, the Infiorite di Spello. The streets are filled with art made from fresh flowers. 1/2
Word comes today from #Umbria of our pitiful olive harvest this year. It was a strange year, and between the bugs and the heat we didn't have an abundant crop to start with, but recent high winds caused many olives to fall prematurely. So not such a great year for the olives, but that tracks because 2023 has been pretty terrible all around! I do love the olive harvest season and I miss the camaraderie. It's really hard work, but I've never done anything more satisfying.
We are finally Perugia bound! It's a point of pride for me that I managed to pack for the two of us for six weeks in just these bags. And since we can't access anything in our house while earthquake repairs are underway (surprise!), this will have to do for the next 5 months. At Roma Termini, heading to #Umbria
The light isn't good for photography today, but I had to try out my new (to me) camera.
It has captured well the interesting colours in this lichen covered tree trunk I think.
Today we celebrate our 30th anniversary with one of my favorite shots of us. We took it early one morning the first Christmas we spent in our house in #Umbria. We had cranked up the music and something possessed me to set up the camera remote. I didn't get the film developed for several months, and we had by then hit a rough patch. I put it in a frame with the Thoreau quote: "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” This picture got me through. 💕
Reason 675 why I love #Italy: Our favorite local trattoria that treats us to after dinner drinks and just leaves the bottles. And yes, their cantaloupe liqueur is heavenly. #Umbria
