Another interesting addition to my collection of video game hardware. The ASCII Super L5 for the Super Famicom was designed for playing and grinding in RPGs with one hand (get your mind out of the gutter 😂)
The inset portion with the D-pad, L, R, Select and Start on the top can be rotated for better ergonomics.
With the arrival of Super Metroid, I think my #SNES / #SuperFamicom library might be complete, unless I somehow come across cheap copies of Wild Guns, Ninja Warriors, or Harvest Moon (the latter two of which I used to own, whoops).
This is pretty neat! If you are into the #SNES#retrogaming space you have likely heard that the #SuperFamicom toward the end of its life had the subscription service called the #Satellaview. They released downloadable content that wasn't available anywhere else. One such game was a a particular version of #FZero. Still to this day nobody has it, but video of it existed, so a dude recreated it via that. New tracks, new cars, etc. You patch the Fzero ROM to play it. https://youtu.be/sDcrM706gws?si=eEHElDFoTB6b_xo9
I just bought a #superFamicom jr. Looks clean/un-tanned, & comes with a late-version controller too. Decent price, 🤞 that it works. Will have to mod it to restore s-video & rgb output — good thing I bought a bunch of resistors & caps last Dec.
A #nintendo64 Tri-Star 64. Stick it on top of your n64 and it will play #snes, #superfamicom, #nes and #famicom games, pal and ntsc. Let's see if it works. What are difficult to hw emulate games I should test?
And here is the end result. From the front it is almost like new. I just had to re-glue the cover on two of the corners. The back is now yellowed but that doesn't bother me and the left side looks the worst. I think I'll get a repro module so I can swap the back and Super Mario All-stars can shine in new splendor again.
personally, my big score was this game: Otogirisou. it is what was called a "sound novel" at the time, but would be now called a visual novel.
i picked it up for two reasons. first, i'm in love with the box cover artwork. there is something perfectly moody about it - a roughly inked haunted house in the distance, surrounded by briars, which looks like the only shelter during a pummelling rainstorm.
(and this is indeed the plot of the game)
second, it has an incredible soundtrack that was given a full orchestra treatment in the 90s. the album is called "Game Music Concert 2" by Tokyo City Philharmonic.
