I joined #HardcoverApp 📕 (@hardcover) a few days ago, imported all of my #Goodreads data, and as a #Bookworm, I'm super impressed! It didn't take me long to decide to become a paid supporter. 🤗 It's completely free, but you can become a supporter for some extra goodies.

If you're looking for a Goodreads or #StoryGraph alternative, do check out #Hardcover! Here is my profile:

Is anyone else having problems with the app? I keep getting a black screen. I've restarted it a few times.

I had a sudden craving for Barbara Pym last week and thoroughly enjoyed rereading A Glass of Blessings, 1958, in which we follow Wilmet’s life in her suburban London parish. Full of quirky characters, it’s a great read! #bookstodon #BookReview #Storygraph @bookstodon

I've made a #StoryGraph Reading Challenge to track new issues of the LRB.

I'm currently on my third new subscription of the last 8 years or so, as I always fall behind with them, then feel like I'm wasting money and cancel the sub -- I was already 4 issues behind with this year's magazines, so am trying this.

    @aetataureate I’m loving #StoryGraph though I really like Literal’s take on clubs. It’s very minimal - a stream of books, and a stream of conversation around those books. StoryGraph’s version seems a little too fleshed out. Also, are you on any book clubs there right now?

    People told me that Neil Gaiman is a good writer. In fact, they said he’s one of the best. But this sentence is a little questionable. also, he’s used the word wall nine times in this exact same paragraph.

    That's messed up.

    Apparently #Storygraph won't let you adjust your progress in a book to a lower page count or percentage. So if you made a mistake? Forget it. You can't do anything about it.

    I realized that although I'd been updating the page count on my current read, it thought there were fewer pages than there actually are and thought I was 70% through rather than 45%. But it won't let me enter less than 70% or 302 pages now, so I'm stuck with the incorrect progress. Not great design there.

    Hey , after diving back into reading, I've recently evaluated goodreads and alternatives for tracking my reading habits:
    (thread: 1/4)

    adastra,
    @adastra@geekdom.social avatar
    1. StoryGraph: Was really excited for this a couple of years ago, but back then the functionality was very bare-bones and I still don't quite get the structure of the site. Tried again and I feel it is still bare bones and can be really slow.

    The stats are really good. The recommendations seem really good too, and are not at all biased towards new releases. I don't like that it has premium features and I can't really tell if paying $5 a month would be of any use for this site.

    adastra,
    @adastra@geekdom.social avatar

    So to summarize, goodreads still has the most functionality, but obviously they sold their soul years ago and now try to shove new releases down your throat. I will continue to use goodreads to organize my reads, but I will probably occasionally check StoryGraph for recommendations (not that I need any, with my to-read shelves having over 60 books)...

    I'm ditching Goodreads this year, what's everyone else using nowadays?

    I tried Bookwyrm but it didn't seem to work very well in my browser unfortunately (currently Chrome)

    Trying Storygraph for a bit, will see how it goes. I do like graphs!

    I’ve been using Goodreads since 2008. I like keeping track of what books I’ve read, and seeing what some of my friends thought of those books. But I don’t feel great about using an Amazon-owned product. I’d be interested in any thoughts on fediverse book servers, or impressions of Storygraph, for those who have used them?
