C'mon @nytimes, that wasn't a "challenge" to scientific orthodoxy (whatever that means) - it's been clear from the very beginning that none of the samples presented for an extremely old at came from archaeological contexts.

Pigati et al have redated a deposit from New Mexico that contains human footprints. The original ages, derived from freshwater plant seeds, suggested the humans were there during the Last Glacial Maximum, over 20,000 years ago. This proved controversial, so they redated the deposit by radiocarbon dating pollen, and optically stimulated luminescence. These techniques are far more challenging, but confirm the original age determination. #Radiocarbon #IceAge #HumanMigration https://www.science.org/doi/full/10.1126/science.adh5007

How it started and how it's going, Latvian #hillfort in Lelindricas edition. The sequence of uncovering wooden constructions of a rampart in our test pit (1 × 3 m).
At first we thought it was just a burnt tree trunk. Then it became clear we were dealing with woden construction. Now we hope for at least #radiocarbon dates if not some #dendrochronology.
