Carreiros do Monte in #Madeira, Portugal. You can pay people in Monte to throw you down a long, steep street while you sit in a wicker basket/toboggan. No, they won't throw you down the street for free; you must pay for the privilege.

The „Santa Maria de Colombo“: a modern ‚old pirates boat‘ lying in the harbour of #Funchal.
It is going on tourist tours around the island of #Madeira nearly every day … or at elastic was.
The picture is from 2016. This year I haven’t seen it. 🤷♂️ #shipsaturday
I thought a life of driving the hills of #Yorkshire would have been good training for the #Madeira hills but: no. Narrow roads, usually with a car-destroying water gully seemingly 30cm away from your wheels at all times, constant severe up or down hill, regular hair pin turns - I rarely left 2nd gear. Sudden blinding fog and/or torrential rain. Hire car clutch was ragged. Also my first real time driving on the right. Great fun!
Not so bad if you stick to the tunnels but we were adventurous.
Spent the last week in #Madeira in an attempt to convince my brain not to completely hibernate this winter. It was an experiment as we've never done anything like a package or winter sun holiday before, and we mistimed it somewhat: the week before had been full sun every day, whereas we got clouds most days, and some HEAVY rain.
Still though, we got out and about everyday, so hopefully my eyes soaked up some rays.
