/6 @doublebyte, the organizer of Geomob Lisboa and maps extraordinaire, gave the final talk at #geomobLX before the much-awaited #geobeers and mingling.
She chose to speak about geo-use cases of the Parquet data storage method or GeoParquet. Joana is certainly an advocate for its efficiency with large datasets.
Fun fact, she helped Paulo with 96 datasets for his eMOTIONAL Cities project!
Two weeks from tonight on 🗓️ May 8th it is once again time for Geomob Lisbon 🇵🇹. Hope you can join us for interesting talks followed by discussion over #geobeers 🍻
1/ Many thanks to everyone who joined us last night for another Geomob London. Was a very fun and interesting evening - as always. Here's our summary thread for those who couldn't attend.
First up thanks to @mhaklay and the UCL Geography Dept. for again hosting us - without which Geomob would not be possible. 🙏
8/ Thank you to all who attended, especially the speakers. Our next London event will by on Wed. July 3rd at Geovation in Clerkenwell as part of London Data Week! #geomobLON
On the 8th of May, I am going to be talking about #geoparquet at #geomobLX
GeoParquet is a cloud native format for enabling geospatial interoperability between cloud data warehouses. It is basically a spatial extension of #apache#parquet (:
In this week's episode of the podcast (Ep. 220) we hear from recent Geomob Lisbon speaker Patrick Ribeiro about explorer.land - a map-based storytelling and transparency tool for nature-based projects related to climate change.
2/ First speaker was Olaf Veerman of Development Seed sharing an overview of new cloud optimized data formats and why they are needed as the sheer volume of geo data explodes.
3/ Second speaker was Geomob veteran Ed Freyfogle @freyfogle of OpenCage @opencage discussing the pleasure (and occasional pain) of geocoding, and making the case to stop overspending with proprietary data sources
5/ Fourth Geomob Lisbon speaker was Patrick Ribeiro of https://explorer.land presenting the need for geo-transparency to give investors the confidence to invest in urgently needed climate projects
9/ Our next Geomob Lisbon will be sometime in the spring, please get in touch if you would like to speak.
Meanwhile signup is open for upcoming Geomobs in Oulu, Finland 🇫🇮 (9 Nov), London🇬🇧 (24 Jan), and Berlin 🇩🇪 (21 Feb). We hope to announce more events soon.
