Was NOT expecting to get a new PATHOLOGY album this year but we are! Their next full length 'Unholy Descent' is out May 17, and this is the first single from it, "Cult of the Black Triangle".
Pathology is one of the heaviest, most intense bands around, and I'm psyched to hear the rest of this record.
I hadn't found any LPs I was upset I missed from 2023 until the other day. 2023's 'Vortex of Possessable Flesh' by ECTOPLASMORPHOSIS is NOT going to be for everyone. 🤣 It's some pretty wild brutal death metal. The drummer is a MACHINE. There's a spot in one song where the guitars & bass all do brief solo flourishes that pan around the speakers. WILD. Kinda diverse for brutal death.
Necroflex is like, dubstep and electronica mixed with brutal death metal? Many songs start out mostly dub/electronic and get textures added and become kinda progressively guitarrier and metal-slammier as they progress. Each track is titled 'Fragmented' with an increasing percentage as it works through the 8 tracks.
I've listened to a bunch of stuff today, some good, some meh. A GREAT one that maybe shouldn't have surprised me is this Pathology record 'The Everlasting Plague' from 2021 that I'm just hearing today for the first time fully.
It is SO good. Some both brutal and very MELODIC stuff here. A few cool intros and solos, and those are pretty rare in metal, a lot of times - especially in the heavier stuff.
Second full listen of new Ribspreader is even BETTER. Little cool things - wild riffs, grooves, interesting breakdowns- if you like death metal at all, you'll wanna give this a try.
So glad it came out in January so people can listen all year. I can see this being on a LOT of AOTY lists this year. It's ridiculously good.
Here it is, my top 20 albums of 2023. It's not ALL metal, although there's a lot of metal. I know not everyone likes metal (or brutal death metal) - but there's some rap, some punk, a little post punk- actually, my top 3 here are all non-metal.
As always, let me know your thoughts, especially if you check some of them out, or already have.
Next Saturday is the 25th anniversary gig of my friends, and one of my favorite bands, #KevlarSkin (Córdoba, Spain) so today for #thursdeath I'm going to share a bunch of their stuff.
This is a songwhip link to Necroroid, their last record, released in 2020.
