The Night Circus 🎪
By Erin Morgenstern

I read this book when I first started college, I think. The thing that stuck with me since reading it has always been the beauty and magic of the circus itself. Normally, I’d get lost or bored of extensive detail or descriptions about the setting, but the Circus of Dreams was an ✨aesthetic ✨that stirred my imagination. I was surprised at how much I loved it.

Hi! I'm Julien. I'm a self-taught bookbinder.
I make ancien-looking journals and fantasy stationery out of wood and leather.

Both Cameron and Anna have many years of fine art printmaking experience, covering the full range of techniques from lithography, etching, relief, intaglio, screen printing in addition to letterpress. Combined with and there are few things they haven’t tried and tested over the years.

With over 60 years of combined artistry between them, they continue to create and exhibit, both nationally and internationally, as independent fine artists.

Bookbinding has been democratised thanks to BookTok:

“It is deeply satisfying re-binding a book to look like it would belong in the world I’m reading about”

why do any of these books come in editions other than plastic comb bound??? #mandolin #bookbinding

So recently i had some time to play again with #bookbinding, tried to make couple of notebooks, one using some decorated paper i bought at a #crafting store, and the other one based on my #osdev_notes #book project, i call it the "Osdev Notebook", it's still in a drafting stage, but the idea is nice (i have designed the inner pages too).
I've posted it on my ko-fi page too: https://ko-fi.com/post/Some-homemade-notebooks-R6R8XQZG3 (don't worry i use it as my blog, so nothing to pay). #art #handmade

@ehyde This is beautiful! Really love the aesthetic of the gold on black, and the gold+dotted blue/green pages (idk what is the word for the side?)

I may have fallen down a minor #bookbinding rabbit hole in which i discovered that "thermal binding machines" are a thing. They're ~$100-200 in the US BUT the exact same machines are available on Ali Express for $55 with (checks notes) $2 shipping (from china).

Also, hot-melt glue strips for use in these machines? $5 for100 vs ~$10 for 20 on US Amazon.

The one in the pic here is rebranded as the "We R Memory - Thermal Cinch" in the US and for $80-$100. 🤦‍♀️

Quick ⚠️ re buying appliances / electric things from Ali Express: many of them are 220v not the 110v we need here in the US. You've got to watch out for that. Also, you have to cross your fingers that the device works, because it'll probably cost you more to ship it back, than it did to buy it... assuming you can even get someone to give you an address to ship it to.

I case any of you are interested, here are those cheap glue strips: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805560355956.html

for "just a little more" ($1,500 + shipping 🤦‍♀️) you can get this thing which looks like it'd actually hold up for non-hobbyist use or you know, actually work in the first place.

#Bookbinding people: What's a good paper stock to use for a softcover binding? For me cheap and easy to acquire is more important than good looks.

I just want to make printed versions of long PDFs (or collections of) so that I don't have to read them on a screen.
