Gov. Gavin Newsom is taking the offense on cultural issues and building a new coalition with younger voters, college-educated Republicans, and independents.

What good is a national monument if we allow toxic #mining to spoil it?
That's what we want to know, as federal officials decide whether to allow new #drilling and ultimately #mining for #uranium on the edge of #BearsEars National Monument in #Utah.
Less than two years ago, President #Biden restored #NationalMonument#protections to Bears Ears and its red rock #canyons, high desert #wildlife and ancient remains of #Indigenous cultures. Why on earth would we now allow disruptive and damaging uranium mining right next door?
India’s multi-billion-dollar purchases of U.S. arms are less about shifting its reliance on Russian defence equipment and moving towards the West - it's more about developing its own domestic weapons industry, security officials and analysts say.
Robert Reich always worth reading on the #economy and #inequality. Why has a strong economy “overall” failed to turn the tide of pessimism in the USA? Unequal benefits, for one. But also concerns about rising #authoritarianism, spiraling #climate challenges, and the (ongoing) effects of the #COVID pandemic. Tough for #Biden or any incumbent to make the case for re-election given these conditions and headwinds.

The Prime Minister who has no spine who couldn't stand up for parliamentary rules that he stayed away on a vote on #Johnson & his rule breaking. Is expected to find a spine to stand up to #Biden, who has been leading the way on the response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine 🇺🇦
US President Joe #Biden has landed in the UK ahead of a #Nato summit in #Lithuania later this week - which comes after several allies questioned his call to send cluster bombs to #Ukraine.
The #UK and #Canada are among those who voiced concern about supplying the #clusterbombs, which are widely banned because of the danger they pose to civilians.
The US says they are needed because Ukraine's weapon stocks are dwindling. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-66146457
Unsurprising. Membership rules for #NATO require that the country applying for membership not be in a border dispute. #Russia had effectively vetoed Ukrainian NATO membership when began occupying Ukrainian territory in 2014. (Which makes the claim that NATO membership motivated the 2022 "escalation" even more nonsensical.)
That being said, if anyone has earned the protection NATO membership brings, it is the Ukrainians. Bringing into NATO forty million people who just sacrificed enormously for freedom also could wake up the people of other member countries that take freedom for granted.
President Biden said in an interview that aired on
Sunday that Ukraine was not ready for membership in NATO and that it was "premature" to begin the
process to allow Ukraine to join the alliance in the middle
of a war."
