The woman in the lower left corner is here to let you know that the writers of Archie Comics know exactly what they're doing #vintage#ArchieComics#innuendo
Yes, that's a lot of warnings for an Archie comic, eh?
Afterlife with Archie is a story about a zombie breakout in Riverdale. It begins when Jughead's dog Hot Dog is killed and he asks Sabrina the Teenage Witch to help bring the dog back. The dog does come back, but is undead, bites Jughead, and the zombie contagion begins to spread.
This continues at a Halloween dance where we watch as characters from classic Archie stories are put into a wild and violent situation as they are fighting, and hiding, to survive.
The art from Francesco Francavilla is dark, gritty, and compelling. It tells a visual narrative as Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's dialogue and narration work hand in hand to pull you in to the horror.
One of the content warnings I included was about an implied incestuous relationship, which is included between Cheryl and Jason Blossom. I genuinely don't understand it's inclusion in the plot and while, so far, nothing has come of it, it was unsettling in a different way then everything else.
This is, currently, the only compiled volume of Afterlife with Archie. There are 5 more issues released after this, so I'll have to figure out how to even read them.
Feel free to sound off in the comments if you've read this or any of the Archie Horror comics.
