The new #Anbernic retro gaming handheld, which runs #Android 13 and has a 720x720 (1:1) screen is now available for a slight discount during the Dragonboat Festival time. Of course it can also run Stradew Valley, Minecraft, etc... as it comes with Play store enabled.
I've got the RG Nano (2 for the kids), RG353M (2 for the kids), RG353V (gameboy feel), RG ARC (Sega games), RG405M (to take everywhere), RG552 (to fly/drive my RC stuff), RG556 (for game streaming), and the RG35xxH (neh, bad purchase)... and honestly, the 405M and 556 are probably the better devices, as the stock OS is already very usable. I expect this not to be any different.
I didn't like stock at all. It felt chunky and slow for me.
I'm currently digging into MuOS ( https://muos.dev ) , liking it so far! It also has @zep#pico8 support, you simply download the binaries and it runs natively. This is a huge plus for me.
MuOS's menu is not as eye-candy like Batocera, but fast, highly customizable, and works nicely.
After sending my Anbernic RG351P to the grave (don't ask me why 🥲), I bought the Anbernic RG35XX-H as a portable retro gaming console.
@zafer ' s new toy, the RG35XX Pro model (last photo), has the same chipset. Its price was quite reasonable compared to the RG351p at the time (Anbernic is currently $53 + taxes, whereas when I bought the RG351p, it was around $110 excl. taxes).
I got it solely to play games from the GBA generation that I completely missed out on as a kid. I wanted a small device; otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it, and I would have continued with the solutions I already had.
Another notable alternative was the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro (2nd photo on the previous post), but it exceeded the absurd 150 euro Turkish imports limit (we cannot order anything over €150 without imports advisor automatically), so I'm not even allowed to buy it...
@gbraad foobar2000 was such a great piece of software with such a terrible name. I guess it proves that, if you build something great, the name might not matter much
The #Miyoo Mini Plus is on sale on AliExpress alongside a bunch of other retro handhelds from #Anbernic and the like. So it might be a good time to grab one :P
@factolvictor
This kinda makes me want to find a rom site so I can replay the Disney sega Genesis games I grew up with, except rom sites are scary (hey I still have the cartridges so it's legal, I just don't have a working system) @gaming
While the #anbernic RG556 is a great #emulation / #gaming platform, it has a big flaw when it comes to TypeC support; it will NOT do HDMI and charging at the same time. It is using an external display OR charging... not both! Hopefully a software update, but I doubt... This means that the Baseus Steam Deck docks I have are all not working with this device (but works with Samsung devices and a Deck of course).
