#US Senator #TammyBaldwin has introduced a new bill called the "Northern Great Lakes Wolf Recovery Act," which aims to expand the definition of #Minnesota 's #wolf population to include wolves in Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This proposed expansion would result in #Wisconsin 's #GrayWolves losing their #EndangeredSpecies status.
Additionally, Senator #Baldwin is advocating for the creation of an advisory committee comprising farmers, ranchers, Native people, wolf experts, and state agencies from #Wisconsin and other states. The committee's objective would be to develop a proposal for delisting the wolf across the upper Midwest, based on the argument that wolf populations have sufficiently recovered. Senator Amy Klobuchar is a cosponsor of the bill.
Feeling excited and a bit nervous as I just received word that I qualified for the Elite start gate of the Epic Bike Fest race this weekend. It's a ~35 mile mountain bike race between Hayward and Cable Wisconsin.
Just to give you a tiny idea of what the race is like, this is me at the finish in 2016, covered in mud, but smiling :)
"Here's the problem: federal rules require companies that receive funding to charge customers based on the amount of electricity, or kilowatt hour, they use when they charge their vehicles. But in Wisconsin, that's not allowed for any business that is not a regulated electric utility.
Past efforts to change the law to exempt EV charging providers from the state's definition of a utility failed and its future in the current legislation is uncertain."
🤨 The city deleted all references to "no mow may" from their website and then put out something saying that it's actually "no mow mother's day" and that everyone should now mow their lawn. I wonder what the backstory is to that?
What I thought was interesting to spot during my recent vacation in the #US, #Wisconsin to be more specific, was the #culture being a bit different than I expected.
Most of a "generic" #American culture that I've been exposed to by media, etc., seems to be based either on the big urban centres or a more southern states-leaning viewpoint. The midwest cultural mixing seems a bit more hyphenated (e.g., German-American) and, for lack of a better term, moderate.
For example, this sign at a bar in Monroe seems like a good example of such a hyphenated cultural expression. Monroe was predominantly settled by Swiss. And this wasn't the only time I came across German. Oh yes, and we got expertly yodelled at in a store there too.
ps. I should also add, that bar gets a major thumbs-up, because the sign for the toilets depicted a man, a woman, a non-binary person, and an alien, with the words: "Whatever. Just make sure you wash your hands." 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Super proud #Minnesota dad today, in #Wisconsin for my daughter, a soon to be #uwmadison#uwgrad graduate. Feels funny to be in Camp Randall. A deserved happy day for the Class of 2023.
Things 'kick off' at noon.
I heard about this place months ago, and I've still never been there, but I told a friend about it and he checked it out and said it's awesome. The owner is super-helpful and he's got a bunch of stuff from them.
