Problem is, no one else can track down the source, and the game’s composer hasn’t heard of it. So… is this an ancient wiki hoax that passed under the radar for years? Or real?
This was a surprisingly big, complex game for Game Boy Colour. You had dozens of levels that affected each other Metroidvania style, and a design setup where Wario couldn’t actually take damage or die, meaning obstacles transformed you or knocked you back.
A great game all round, and the highlight of an underrated series too.
Finally I have beaten Warioland. Well, I haven’t finished the Sherbet World, and I got „only“ the blockhouse in the end. But still! One more game beaten! #nintendo#gameboy#retrogaming#warioland
I am trying to warm up to Warioland 1. And I have to admit that I do think it’s one of the best GameBoy games. However after WL2 it’s so much worse in my opinion. So frustrating on the first playthrough getting clobbered by enemies popping up that you couldn’t see or expect. That’s the disadvantage of those large sprites. Still an impressive game, but I like WL2 so much better! #nintendo#gameboy#warioland#retrogaming
This was the point where I was really proud of myself. I got all the treasures AND the treasure map in Wario Land 2. #nintendo#gameboy#warioland#retrogaming
And finally I got the last puzzle piece in Wario Land 2! I had to take on Syrup in the factory a dozen times to achieve this… #retrogaming#nintendo#gameboy#warioland
And this is the last ending that was missing in Wario Land 2. I am still missing lots of treasures and the last three puzzle pieces which leads to the FINAL final level though. Plus I think I have missed so many rooms and secrets… #retrogaming#nintendo#warioland#gameboy
So I finally managed to beat Wario Land 2‘s final boss after something like the 50th try at least. However the final treasure map and game percentages suggest that there is much more content in the game. I assume if I know restart the GB and continue my savegame I will be able to pick other routes? #nintendo#gameboy#warioland#retrogaming
So todays theme for #vgmwednesday is #goodstart? Then I’m gonna go with Palm Tree Paradise from #WarioLand 4. Just the fact the first real level you’ll ever encounter has a song with lyrics (on the GBA mind!) it’s just crazy to me:
Just completed Wario Land 4, and it gave me mixed feelings.
First off, the presentation is fantastic! It has some of the prettiest sprite animations I've seen and the sound design is very playful and unique.
It made a few crucial changes to the formula. Wario is no longer immortal so you have to be more careful. There is a new speedrunning aspect to it, because once you "clear the level" you have to run back to the start before the time runs out.
Its focus has changed from the carefree puzzle platforming exploration I loved, Wario has fewer forms you can explore the levels with, so it's not my favorite. But it's quite short and polished, so it's well worth playing. #retrogaming#wario#warioland#gba#gameboyadvance
