Oh look, an article written by someone who backs the Canadian Oil industry. Of course electric car mandates will fail. Ignore all the countries where this has worked succefully. Nothing to see here. #corporateGreed #canada #environment #electricvehicles #electriccars

@paultk #ElectricCars won't save the plante, but #PublicTransport and #WalkableNeighbourhoods will...

Otherwise you just externalize and the change the emissions...

Looking at social media rn and I keep seeing articles about: ever larger, ever more-expensive cars, SUVs and trucks out-selling smaller vehicles, rants calling for the abolition of public transport, hate campaigns directed at cyclists, an insistence that driving is the ONLY valid form of transport—

The car industry is panicking. End of fossil fuel burners plus €10,000 for a car-sized battery pack equals end of a viable motoring economy (cheap second-hand cars can't exist in an EV future).

@cstross That's because the industry decided they want to never comply to standards of the 's nor that they want to ever sell affordable vehicles.
Not that are good - they are horrible regardless of their type!

And those that can't utilize either should be able to get :

According to The Guardian, Australia may expand the size of parking spots in order to accommodate huge SUVs/trucks.

Disappointing. To fight climate change, we need policymakers to regulate car bloat rather than enable it.

So my 12 year old cousin lives 0.6 miles from his middle school and has no idea how to walk there or back. Nor even the direction it is.

Its literally like 1 turn as well, not some crazy complicated street layout.

I cannot believe how little he knows about his own neighborhood, and its obviously caused by my aunt/uncle driving him everywhere.

ELECTRIVE: Stockholm verbannt Verbrenner aus der Innenstadt https://www.electrive.net/2023/10/11/stockholm-verbannt-verbrenner-aus-der-innenstadt/
Ab 2024. Zone soll später ausgedehnt werden. Generell soll der Autoverkehr bis 2039 um 30% sinken.

kkarhan,
@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

there are a lot of grudges i have with soviet union but i gotta hand it to them the urban planning was pretty good. i am looking at the photos of american streets and i just thank the universe every day that at least my city is walkable and has reliable public transportation

kkarhan,
@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

@mynameistillian That's because for the entire eastern block, was neither feasible [ was scarce and artificially subsidized] in mass-scale nor contrary to as in like seperated homes was deemed dangerous and suspicious.

Needless to say when are not an option, and with all necessities in walkable distances are basically a necessity for everyone.
