Played a few games of #TuringMachine this morning with old man Tarzan keeping me company. The standard difficulty challenges were enjoyable, but the harder verifier cards are confusing and throwing me for loops. (I believe that they only verify one criteria for the given challenge? Not sure…) Regardless, puzzles are good for the brain!
It’s time for #SaturdayMorningBoardGames! I’ve finally broken out Tales from the Loop, a game about kids who investigate rumors and solve mysteries about strange occurrences in “the 80s that never were.” I’m playing two-handed here.
It’s based off of the amazing world and art created by #SimonStalenhag!
Right. GATE is tough. Too tough.
So I decided to go to something only a bit less tough: #Grove.
This evening is the first time in a million* attempts where I’ve actually managed to beat the score challenge, barely scraping 58 points against a target of 54 😅
It’s such a brilliant game, unassumingly tough despite being so simple to grasp and play.
*more like 20 attempts or so. Gotta add some DRAMA.
I have a bad habit of feeling too tired to do anything, but too bored to keep watching mindless entertainment. #solotober2023 legitimately helped me to realize how energizing these solo games can be, and it got me to take another whack at Final Girl: Panic at Station 2891. This time, my partner (who was the one who purchased Final Girl in the first place but still hasn't played it) kept me company.
I did a lot better this time, both by luck and by strategy. I made an effort to find some weapons and test kits early, then started my testing. Only one of the three Exposed Victims ended up being a Mutated Organism, and I managed to kill it! Only for it to have the +3 final health token. The game ended when it got two attacks off on me in one round when I flubbed a Guard roll. It had a single health left. Sigh.
I know that this is a luck fest and it's a pain to set up, but I'm a sucker for good theme and this nails it so hard. I need to play this more often (and go back to the Alien one - I got really lucky the last time I played it and I want to see what it's like when that doesn't happen).
Apparently #Solotober2023 is a thing, so I figure I should share my first play of 2012's Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island. Based on this session, I totally understand the subtitle. In spite of a copious supply of liquor and an uncanny ability to make food out of whatever scraps he could find, my Cook ended up starving to death after a failed scouting expedition, lost outside of camp at night.
I cleared the board before I thought to snap a photo, so here it is set up for attempt number two.
Maximum Apocalypse: final board-state at the end of the tutorial mission. I made good use of the Hunter’s ability to recon locations. Got a bit lucky with the monster spawns (pulled an ally with the initial draw) and got the fuel I needed with my first scavenge attempt. #boardgames#soloboardgaming
Set up for the tutorial mission of Maximum Apocalypse, playing as the Hunter. I need to get from the mall to the van and pick up some gas along the way. And zombies are afoot! #boardgames#soloboardgaming
