Okay, @miona's #VGMWednesday has a theme of #Sampled - looking for songs where elements from video game music is incorporated into the beat / melody of a song.
Let's take it back to 1995 when Bone Thugs-N-Harmony sampled the underrated #SegaGenesis fighting game Eternal Champions in their aptly titled track, "Eternal."
So a few weeks-to-months ago I was having one of Those #Retrocomputing Days where literally nothing worked. I tried to use 3-4 different systems in a row, because I just wanted to use something, I didn't want to fix something, and none of them would even boot, much less run.
I socketed it back in, but because I was focusing on getting the chiptunes talk going (it had a LOT of moving parts; I wound up displaying a #NES, #Commodore64, #SNES, #Amiga, #SegaGenesis (AKA #MegaDrive), and a 486 #PC, all live playing various music, and that took some doing), I didn't look into it any further.
Today, I went down, hooked up a suitable display (a Trinitron capable of at least 1280x1024) and ... it just booted and worked.
Well, I am fully and certifiably addicted to JRPGs. It was only a matter of time. Anyways, what is ya’lls favorite in the genre? Any forgotten classics/hidden gems/diamonds in the rough I may not be aware of? My favorites are: Final Fantasy IV(obsessed with this game, can’t believe I almost skipped right to FFVI 😳) Final Fantasy I, Earthbound, Pokémon Red/Blue/Gold/Silver.
The first three Dragon Quests are on Switch, maybe I’ll give those a shot? Idk, any help would be appreciated!
So I've been noticing this #vgmwednesday thing going around and I would like to share my contribution. This is the opening title theme for Shadow of the Beast. However, this may be controversial because I'm going with the Sega Genesis port instead of the Amiga version. I guess I'm partial to this one because I don't have an Amiga and so this port was my first exposure to this weird, creepy game.
