I'm incensed to see say ”Winning the trust of people across past divides, such as leave and remain, or yes and no in Scotland, is vital.”

and independence are not past divides, they're current. Leaving the has been a disaster which in no way resembles the promises of the Leave campaign. deserves to be able to reassess the union as so much has changed since the vote a decade ago.

is continuity .

“I was in love with the book. In pure, ignorant defiance of the decree of the Iowa Writing School that controls almost all modern fiction, Galt tells without showing.”

“[Galt’s] realism is hard-headed, his compassion is tough-minded, his humour contagious but tainted with the sense that chaos and catastrophe are never far away.”

Literary fitba: there’s a football team named after one of Walter Scott’s novels, but John Galt had one named after him …

(well, the team was named after a town in Ontario that was named after John Galt, but still… & they won gold 🏅 at the 1904 #Olympics)

#Budapest has honoured a #Scottish #Holocaust heroine who died in #Auschwitz. A plaque and a #Stolperstein have been dedicated in memory of Jane #Haining, with headteacher Margaret Prem also remembered. A deputy mayor of Budapest gave a speech which "highlighted the injustice of the so-called crimes with which Miss Haining was charged and the importance today of people from different belief systems living peacefully with one another"
