Preempting the defence: "Everyone else does it!/They started it!!/We have to to keep up! It's Google or someone else's fault!" + "Oh yeah, and we're sorry. Honest." 🙄
Tech SEO Tips Newsletter this week has a detailed discussion on Google’s generative AI experience and what it means for us as SEOs, plus Rich snippets prevalence from STAT Search Analytics, Optimising for People Also Ask from Melissa Popp additional details from Google on SGE and much more.
If you have 'The Great Suspender Original' Chrome extension installed - delete it. It is no longer available on the Chrome store because it hijacks the Google Results pages inserting an iframe from yellow-pages.com with your search term and inserts several, I'm assuming, paid adverts that look like organic results. Thought my SERP results were odd the last few days.
'The Great Suspender' extension (note lack of 'Original' in name) I think is ok - it is still in the Chrome store. #seo#chrome
@optimisey Agreed! This is a right pain. I can understand the Ads team see it as a golden opportunity to reach their bonuses but it is predatory and irritating at best.
Meanwhile, as expected, the Analytics team are rolling out more improvements to GA4.
Love this post by @cliff. He does more than explain what Interaction to Next Paint is and how it's measured. He looks at real user data and creates correlation charts that show how INP aligns with actual user behaviour. It's all about the users!
Today at #GoogleIO, it was announced that Interaction to Next Paint (INP) will become a Core Web Vital in 2024. Here's what you need to know about INP, including the answer to the all-important question: Does INP align with real user behaviour?
It's been a while since I've written a review, but I made sure to include Pros and Cons in my recent reMarkable 2 review. It's pretty cool to see Google use the Schema in the search snippet, along with all of the other rich results components (breadcrumbs, review stars, and author).
My newly updated #commission rates are now up. However, I am still incredibly affordable to work with on your #OCs, #comics, #logos, #SEO and more. I also offer #writing and #editing services backed by my experience as a college composition instructor.

I just rolled <neck> out onto a test site with the GA4 tag in it and am getting traffic on the tag. Meanwhile the neck tag is not showing up in Dev tools, and View Rendered Source ext moves it inside the body! yet the page source has it in the right place.
Heads-up! The Magi leaks begin. Google Search will be changing soon, with a departure from 10 blue links -> Google plans to make search more “visual, snackable, personal, & human”, incorporating short videos, social media posts, & conversations w/AI
"Search visitors might be more frequently prompted to ask follow-up questions or swipe through visuals such as TikTok videos in response to queries." And, "Google could further emphasize forum posts & short videos..."
And more (as expected): "At its I/O conference this week, the search giant is expected to debut new features that allow users to carry out conversations w/an artificial-intelligence program, code-named “Magi,” said others familiar w/the matter."
Notice Google's focus on younger users throughout the article. This week should be very interesting with I/O announcements. :)
@simoncox Simon, I think you've identified a huge business opportunity for anybody that has an understanding of "Image Modification Techniques: Some techniques involve modifying images in such a way that they can't be effectively used for training machine learning models. This could include adding noise, changing colors, or other modifications that don't significantly impact human perception but can impact machine learning models."
