Seems engineers at a previous employer have been getting emails from #Docker sales asking to help make sure they're "properly licensed" according to their developers' usage. I'm very happy that I pushed to standardize on #podman there instead. I'm sure they are right now, too. This is #Oracle style tactics.
What is your opinion on PRIMARY KEYs for database tables that are append-only (i.e. for logging) and have no natural primary key and are not referenced?
Sorry to hear #Oracle treated the YewTube maintainer so badly, but not surprised. There need to be laws against ISPs terminating paid services with no warning, and no opportunity for data recovery. Laws with teeth.
But it's a good reminder to avoid corporate platforms run by DataFarms, even as a paying customer. We don't matter to them, and that will never change. They must be replaced.
Red Hat’s decision to lock down RHEL sources behind a subscription paywall was met with much ire and opened opportunity for Oracle to get a smack in and SUSE to announce a fork with $10 million behind it 🥊
Few RHEL community members have been as publicly irate as @geerlingguy, so we invited him on the show to discuss 💬
Rahmenvertrag: EU-Kommission nimmt Oracle für Cloud-Dienste an Bord
Die gesamte EU-Verwaltung kann dank der sechsjährigen Vereinbarung Cloud-Dienste von Oracle abrufen. "Strengsten Datenschutz" will der US-Konzern gewährleisten.
For 5 years, the ROracle #rstats package provided by #Oracle to CRAN has been broken on Windows. Some nice fellow has finally caved and posted a fork that actually works. Good for him! But it exposes an underlying problem,

I hope everyone is doing well today. I got a new deck today I had on preorder-- been waiting over a year for it to come out and I'm so excited to start using it!
The Zelda games on the Game Boy and Colour are unique within the Zelda series as a whole. Strange plots, enemies, music, mystery and even gameplay plague the three games. Hell, in Link's Awakening half the enemies are straight up from Super Mario Bros. And the oracle games come with novels and feature interconnected password...
Not going to lie, I wouldn't be unhappy to see an #opensource arms race of sorts in the commercial #Linux space. So far, #SUSE is the only one that has obviously done anything actionable, to my knowledge, around the rhetoric. If #Oracle wants to step up and fix CDDL/GPL compatibility or opensource the PUEL parts of #VirtualBox, now would be a great time to step up to the plate and take a swing.
It's interesting, I grabbed this deck for the novelty & I don't normally like oracle decks. They just never vibe with me. I'd hoped this would be different, but I think not? Idk.
None of those words are what I feel like I am. Maybe they are meant to be aspirational. I have thought a lot about how life has made me very serious.
Jesus-efffing-Christ so adding on top of their pathetic interface to change address and/or add a phone to get a SALES call, I ended up using the live chat, who requested to call me on the phone, who called me to just act as gatekeeper of "why do you need a paid account..." before passing me over to a cloud engineer (not sure why I need that just to change from free to paid) like...da...fuck, I'm putting money on your pocket, does it matter why? It's none of your business, just make it a paid account.
What a waste of my time.
EDIT: To make matters worse, the nosy sales agent, just sends me back to the live-chat to talk with the cloud engineer but instead of passing me with them, he just closes the chat. I've been here 20-minutes you idiot. Now I need to start from scratch again.
I have a giant .sql file describing the giant schema dumped from an Oracle database. I don't have Oracle Database installed. Know any good tools to explore the tables/relations? It's way too big for a graph diagram. It has to run locally, no uploading it somewhere. #sql#oracle
Ties van de Ven similarly remarks about about monads vs runtime exceptions: "It is good to look at errors in terms of recoverable in any context, or not [..]" - https://blog.jdriven.com/2023/07/error-handling/
I'm sure Ties ignores checked exceptions for a reason ( ; #java
Anyone know any other games similar to the Oracle ones? Already have a few (Anodyne, Lenna's Inception), looking for more.
