No, I Don’t Miss Google Reader

I don't miss Google Reader. Let me say that out loud, and explain why I don't feel the nostalgia that so many seem to find.

What do people use nowadays as #RSSReaders? (Does the concept even still exist?)

It’s to keep track of relevant #ResearchPapers of interest as my main source used to be… Twitter and ResearchGate, which I’ll both be leaving before 2024

I think I used to use #Newsblur (https://www.newsblur.com/) like 15 years ago… is it still good?

I often tell developers new to #OpenSource, "It doesn't matter how dirty your code is: publish it, someone will find it useful or interesting, first and foremost you".

I myself never published dirty code, my expectations from myself as a professional developer were just too high. Until today:

It's a terrible implementation of a solution for a niche problem, but it works and I'm pleased with myself that I took my own advice for once.

Does anyone use (or has previously) any of #Inoreader, #Newsblur, or #Feedbin and have any opinions about them to share with me? As I slowly try to reorganize and reorient how I do things I feel like I want start using a good rss reader for organization and keeping on top of things.

brechmos, to technology in Multiplatform RSS reader suggestions

I like #newsblur too. I have paid for it for years now (though it is free).

What I like best about it is that it caches the text and images of the site so I don’t get all the ads etc.

Every year or so I go around looking at others but always go back.

What #rss reader do you use? Looking at something that syncs between my desktop and mobile phone. I’ve heard of #FreshRSS and don’t mind #SelfHosting either.

#selfhost

Linecutter,

@cjerrington
#Newsblur

You can try it with a free account at newsblur.com, but if it's what you'd like then it's self hostable too.

If you want something a little more lightweight, with a different approach to filtering, to self host then #tt-rss is worth a look.

Pair either with #huginn to pull in #rss feeds from places that don't have them or that need pre-filtering.

Happy to give pointers to getting these going, if you need them
