The MSI gaming handheld appears to be the first one to feature the Intel Ultra CPU with Intel ARC graphics, and up to 32GB of ram.

ARC doesn’t seem to have full compatibility with all games although the drivers have improved since its initial release. Curious how this will perform, although I won’t be getting one.
Surely it will have Thunderbolt 4 support.

I have seen some reviews on the MSI Claw, and it seems disappointing. While the Intel Ultra CPUs may be more powerful than the AMD APUs, but they use more power and Arc graphics leave a lot to be desired.

Not that I plan to get one, unless there is a price cut on one, which might happen in the future.

I've deduced that it's probably #Gigabyte's fault. I got the right CPU fan header and it's seated properly, but the fans just refuse to spin no matter what. I then reseated the fan connector, despite it visibly showing that it's already seated properly, and that got it to work - until sometime later it just doesn't anymore. This happens regardless of whether I had set the fans to spin according to my temp/fan speed curve, or making it spin at full blast all the time. As it is, it's impossible to #game since the fans won't spin at all and it'd quickly reach my PBO temp limit of 85c and throttle hard. This isn't the only issue I've encountered with this B550I #AORUS Pro AX mobo - prolly should've went with an ROG board like my primary PC.

RE: https://sakurajima.social/notes/9omk5d8vb1

irfan,

Found a comment saying that #Noctua fans don’t play well with #Gigabyte boards. I have a spare CPU cooler I bought long ago that’s supposedly better thermally and comparable aurally with the current Noctua cooler I have installed. If I’m not feeling lazy, I might just try replacing the cooler - I can only hope that I could do so while the board’s already in the super tiny case of mine, cos getting it out and in again would be a massive pain.

TLDR; Please Avoid Buying Gigabyte/#AORUS motherboards. #MSI and #ASUS boards most of the time are preferable, maybe even #ASROCK.

So far my new #MSI laptop has been delivering in terms of hardware performance, but the software is infuriating. I've talked about my gripes with Windows 11 itself earlier, but now I'm dealing with MSI-specific shenanigans.

When I initially set up the computer, I added one keyboard layout, US International, which allows me to write accentuated letters, common in French, using key combinations with characters available in the US keyboard.

However, whenever I restart my computer for any reason (like OS updates), the basic US keyboard is re-added to the list of available keyboards, which enables the infamous Alt+Shift shortcut to switch between keyboards. This combination is pretty frequently hit inadvertently but normally doesn't do anything on its own, unless you have more than one keyboard layout enabled.

This is irritating on its own, but the steps to remove the unwanted keyboard layout are worse: it only appears enabled in the language widget in the task bar, but not in the language settings, so I have to manually add the US keyboard layout in the settings in order to then remove it, which also affects the language widget and disables the keyboard shortcut. Until the next time I restart the computer.

Same deal but marginally less irritating, the "MSI Center" app keeps re-pinning itself to the taskbar even after I removed it manually. A computer restart and it's back. The MSI helpdesk has the shadiest FAQ page about this very issue which I've been reluctant to follow for fear of collateral damage but I may just end up go with it.

The 's existence has prompted other big brands to also churn out their Deck competitors like ' , 's , 's , etc. which is great bcos competition is always nice.

... but unfortunately, to my eyes and only my own, there really isn't any competitor to my Deck and it's not bcos of / which yes, I do absolutely require out of a handheld (definitely not , no), but it's all about the design. Blows my mind how the Steam Deck is still the ONLY gaming handheld that doesn't scream (not as loud at least) "I'm a boy" or "I'm a gamer".

The obnoxious logos and branding (MSI's even has "TRUE GAMER" etched on their handheld lmao), the RGB vomit everywhere on the handheld wasting the already very precious battery life and weight of the device, the "rough" edges and curves (or lack thereof) of the device that screams "gamery"... and more. The design of the Steam Deck is still not only the most ergonomic imo, but most importantly the stealthiest of them all. I despise obnoxious designs and I appreciate 's decision not to participate in that mess. I just wish and hope that future Decks would come in more colourways.
