Planning is underway for a new #HighSchool in north #Langford as the student population continues to boom as the #WestShore attracts more families.
The proposed high school will be built on a 12-acre site in the #CityGateway area near Costco that #BCgovernment acquired 4 years ago for $20 million.
The facility includes an all-weather sports field with lights funded by the City of Langford and a theatre that could become a focal point for the arts on the West Shore.
@Joe_Hill I hope your next place has more space for you to garden. I'm just very anti-turf microplastics because I'm a lifelong environmentalist & there's one municipality here - #Langford - that's used it almost everywhere & it's screwing up local ecosystems & killing wildlife.
We are going to #MillHillPark in #Langford this afternoon. There should be lots of wildflowers out. We may or may not do summit trail today - it depends on how me & my friend feel, physically. We both have disabilities with high fatigue issues so we play all of our outdoor adventures by ear - actively listening to our bodies & making decisions, accordingly.
Additionally, from the department of Organizations Which Forgot to Proofread Their Copy Before Publishing Their Website comes this screencap from a pop culture convention which is setting up shop in #Langford this April 2024. It's spun off of an existing convention called Northern Fan Con out of Prince George, BC, which is 16+ hours away by vehicle.
The fact that there seems to be no women on the non-profit society's Board of Directors is also troubling.
Now called #EagleRidgeSecondarySchool, the school will be known as QELEṈSEN Á, LEṈ Secondary School (pronounced K-wuh-Lun-Sun, Eh Lun) after consultations with 5 local #FirstNations.
The nations determined that as the closest nation to the school, #ScianewNation would gift the school its new name.
QELEṈSEN Á, LEṈ roughly translates as Eagle House in #SENĆOŦEN.
The #fundraiser is held at 18 gas stations up & down #VancouverIsland from #Langford & north to #CampbellRiver . The fundraiser works by donating $0.05 from each litre of gas sold at any of the gas stations on Sept. 19.
“We are so grateful for Fuel good Day and the support it brings to Island families. For 36 years, we have been making dreams come true for children with life-threatening/critical conditions,” said #HelpFillaDream executive director Craig Smith.
