We can give the extra plants that love to volunteer in the #gardens and exchange a few #herbs, #trees, plants, or garden tools that people want to share.
Here is the link to the FB group if you want to find some inspiration and start some for your community. It is my last reason to still use FB.
It's looking fantastic! One of a few that I grew from last year's seeds 😊 We grow a few types of basil, year round. My purple basil hasn't sprouted yet. These are Genova basil plants.
#Borage cutting #PlantPropagation success.
Last month, I took 6 borage cuttings to propagate. 4 out of the 6 were successful. This one developed very quickly, after developing roots. First flower buds have emerged 🙂
θύμον (thúmon) in Ancient Greek refers to thyme. Same as French "thym," oe Swedish "timjan." Some suggest that it comes from a pre-Greek word that simply refers to the plant. However, others proposed something interesting: what if it derives from θύω (thúō), meaning "to smoke"? Thyme has been burned to release its esences into the air since antiquity. It could be.
Experimenting with propagating rosemary cuttings. 10 were kept in water for 2 weeks until they started to grow roots. 10 were cut and directly potted. Both received rooting powder.
Yellow dock roots, scrubbed and ready to cut up and put in a bottle for tincture. The Offspring finds that yellow dock tincture works better for them than commercial iron pills, so I like to keep plenty on hand.
Has anyone tried anything like this to protect their herbs and ingredients you're growing for lotions and beauty products, things like that? Has it caused any trouble or difficulty that you're aware of? Thanks!

Hi all. How's everyone doing today? I have a question for those with #chronicIllness who use natural remedies, particularly #herbalism, to help with your illness, instead of or along with western medicine. My mom got me some stuff to start a #garden since she thinks I'll love growing my own food and #herbs, and we also think it would be good to see if we can find any herbs that might help with my health issues. She seems to think it's enough to just look up herbs and what they do, but from what I'm reading, there's a lot more to it than that, since they might need to be prepared in a certain way, or there might be a certain tradition or way of use behind them, so I'm trying to find resources to teach me about herbs and how to use them, and maybe just natural and alternative medicine in general. There seems to be a lot of stuff on YouTube, but it's hard to know what's reliable or might be too visual since I'm #blind. I've looked at online courses, but I don't know about #accessibility and most cost a lot of money, which we don't have. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can learn about herbalism, #alternativeMedicine, and things like that in an affordable, #accessible way? #chronicallyIll#NEISVoid@chronicillness
#Lemon balm has a peculiar lemon-mint scent, giving the #plant its common name. Catalans and Arabs, however, disagree on this, for them, it is more #orange-like (tarongina and turunjan respectively).
Our herb garden is flourishing. We have mint (lots), rosemary, sage (two sorts), oregano, lemon balm, lemon verbena, lavender (three types), tarragon and thyme. We've added some succulents as companion plants.
This week my wife is trimming and drying herbs and our kitchen smells wonderful 🙂
The purple basil is first out of the gate, but I can see rosemary and garlic chives starting to stir. I added new seeds to green shiso and red shiso, though they may simply take longer to germinate. Germination times: basil 3-10 days; rosemary 14-30 days; chives 14 to 20 days, shiso 7-21 days.
The weird lighting is from the grow lights. To my eye, the light is white, but the camera doesn't see it that way.

That's an awful lot of big plants for growing in a little planter. Rosemary here is a bush, chives also grow big clumps as does basil. Will you plant them on into bigger containers once started?
#Gardening and Eastern Europe #Botany#Mastodon I need your help, my friend’s father died before giving her the Botanical name for this herb. It is used in Ukrainian and Hungarian dishes, its growth habit is upright and its blooms are light purple. It looks and smells like a specific thyme. He imported the plant from #Ukraine 🇺🇦 but she thinks her Hungarian mom had brought it from #Hungary 🇭🇺 .
