Patch of #nasturtiums attracts many beneficial insects & pollinators.
Fab companion plant for your #EdibleGarden or ornamental garden. Leaves & flowers are #edible.
Grown from mixed, tapped 2022 seeds.
Rats dug up 5 of my snow pea plants. Peanut butter baited traps are going back out in specific spots - tonight.
I tied some remaining snow pea plants up. More snow peas will be transplanted in 2 weeks.
My other plant seedlings are slowly growing in one small DIY greenhouse.
Some of my #nightshade#starterPlants - #eggplants & #tomatoes.
I was behind on seed sowing starts again this past Winter!
I don't transplant any nightshade plants out into beds/pots until at least 2-3 flowers appear on starters. That helps the transplants to do much better - they're stronger if you wait a bit longer to transplant out.
My #cantaloupe#seedlings.
Hopefully I'll get more than 2 cantaloupes this year. Last year was my first time trying to grow cantaloupes. Most of them failed due to neglect. I was too stressed/overwhelmed after my Dad died from long covid cardiac arrest early last June - many of my plants didn't make it.
Adding 2 new #SnapPea varieties to our #FoodGardens this year. Royal snap(deep burgundy) & honey snap(pale yellow) - both are edible raw or cooked. I have 6 of each in my starter pots & transplanting them into beds today.
My delayed #SaanichOrganics seeds vid will be up later today 👩🌾
If you live in the greater Seattle area you likely know about McLendon Hardware stores. Yesterday I found early transplants at the Woodinville store and got some spinach and lettuce to plant in our mini-greenhouse.
Actually I planted spinach seed last fall to overwinter except some critter got in there and ate the plants - roots and all! 😟
If you can, learn how to and grow food for any or all of the following:
• for yourself
• for your family
• to share with friends and neighbors
• to share with those who are unable to grow food
• to supplement your income
Start small. Keep it simple. Even if you can only grow enough for a salad, here and there, you are doing it!
If you can't grow food yourself, find people nearby that do.
I planted 0.4 kilograms of Russian Banana seed potatoes in 3 square meters of my ainneor. Today's yield was 22.9 kilograms! That's crazy! I cannot believe how productive this variety planted in a traditional ainneor is!
I now know how to grow potatoes. Now I need to learn how to store them and how to eat A LOT of them.
This morning, I harvested Dark Red Norland potatoes I planted in an ainneor (lazy bed).
On 30 April, I planted 2 kg of seed potatoes in a 2 sq. meter section of the ainneor. Today's harvest yielded 16.8 kg. Since I have only grown potatoes a few times in the last 30+ years, I don't know if this is a typical yield or not.
