Family ride on back roads of NH this morning. It’s the kind of area where any opening with elevation provides a new perspective of Mt Ascutney. #gravelcycling#biking
Tried some “back road” exploring on the new gravel bike. The good news is there wasn’t much mud. The bad news is there’s a long section of class IV road they've been using for logging access. Still, once that was passed I popped over the mountain onto some miraculous roads (turns out for air traffic and cell equipment access).
Biked to the lake with my wife. Still on the cool side, with a headwind on the way back. Starting to see more buds and greenery popping out along the way.
Super Interesting! Cane Creek unveiled it's new Gravel suspension fork, the "invert".
As the name suggests, it's an upside-down design.
And other as the marketing suggests, it's of course by far not the 1st gravel fork nor is it even the 1st gravel suspension fork. From June on, there will be 2 versions. 1 with 30 and 1 with 40 mm travel.
I welcome the addition and hope more variants from other brands will follow.
Started the ride chilled to the bone, 3 layers and wearing extra gloves I’d brought just in case. At one point I looked over to see a giant pile-o-turtles trying to catch whatever fleeting sun they could.
It was one of those rides I was working on an excuse for not doing within a mile of starting: "too cold", “too windy”, "looks like rain”, "I don’t wanna climb hills”, “this seems complicated”, “nobody is out” but I just kept going, mile after mile, constantly thinking about alternative routes, but never diverging. Then I was at the big climb, “Ah, might as well go a little further." You can go a long ways saying that. Go far enough and you'll be riding snow down the other side. #BikeTooter#GravelCycling#biking#turtles
Went for a long gravel ride. The main feature would have to be all of the water. Rivers running high, ponds overflowing, low spots that are now streams ... water everywhere.
With another foot of snow on the way Wednesday I headed out to enjoy the warm (50°F!) weather while there’s a chance. A mixed bag of mostly gravel punctuated by snow, slush, or ice. #GravelCycling#BikeTooter
Longer gravel bike ride today. Nothing too muddy. I'm guessing the unrelenting wind the past few days has dehydrated the roads. Came across a new (to me) graveyard.
Group ride yesterday on rail trail, gravel, and road. First one with my new gravel bike setup and I fell over. After stopping to regroup I leaned left too much, not realizing I was still clipped in, and just kept going, falling into bike next to me, fingers and hand jamming through spokes. Felt like I broke or sprained something, but that went away over time. IR view of the hand this morning, just for giggles, tells me nothing.
Still getting used to Crank Bros eggbeaters. Been running flat pedals for so long that a learning curve is expected, plus I might have them adjusted wrong. I should probably try the SPDs I have too. #BikeTooter#bike#gravelcycling
Being that it's heading into mud season I 3D printed a little mud guard for the gravel bike. About a buck of PLA filament, if it works I'll probably print it in PETG so it can handle being in the heat without warping.
Here's a link to the model, the author has made a few styles. It tie wraps to the seat, so this isn't something that would work with a seat bag without some modification.
Just learned by visiting BRR that @wolfpacktires have gravel tires now, too. Apparently since last march already?
Unfortunately the tire name seems quite misleading. Actually "super slow" would be more fitting. Too bad.
On the other hand: if you are looking for an above average puncture resistant tread or equally good wet grip, these could be the tires for you. Sounds like a nice wet winter commuting tire.
