A weird bug in the usually graphically impressive FIFA 23 on Xbox Series X...

I ended up playing the entire second half of the game with an information screen of my required objectives stuck in the centre of the pitch at an odd angle. Weird!

Glitch in FIFA 23 game

Has anyone had any experience moving from mastodon/mastodon to glitch-soc/mastodon? I'm looking to do this as they document changes better, and the tweaks they have made allow for me to keep my instance up-to-date with my own tweaks and customization.

It looks straightforward, but since I have modified mastodon/mastodon, I want to be sure I move and make the same changes to my glitch-soc/mastodon fork as well.

To coincide with her new book More than a Glitch, we’re looking forward to hosting Meredith Broussard for a talk on “Confronting Race, Gender and Ability Bias in Tech” on 10th May 2023.

Since yesterday, I noticed a quirk when clicking on "Boost" or "More!' in timeline view: It brings me to the top of the timeline page instead of opening up the regular respective options. If I click on the post in question to the more focused view the "Boost" and "More!" buttons work as they should. All other functions (reply, quote, etc.) work as normal regardless of view. Anyone else encountering this?

Okay, so until the AT and ActivityPub protocols are interoperable, how can we set up crossposters? I've never done anything like that before. Is that something #Glitch would be good for?

ANNOUNCEMENT: I abandon my plans for #Glitch version 2.0.0. I originally planned to make a version 2.0.0, by adding a few more levels. These plans are abandoned. I think this game is already good as-is.

If you haven't played the game yet: https://content.minetest.net/packages/Wuzzy/glitch/

However, I might create a successor game instead. I don't know when.

So I'm curious and I want to check out Mastodon Glitch edition, any tech/lgbtq friendly instances that have this running? 😊 #glitch #mastodon

I just learned about Misskey, which is apparently ALSO a microblogging service that is part of the #Fediverse. Any tech-history-aware folks among my followers feel like taking a stab at explaining how the Fediverse came to be home to TWO microblogging services? Do they tend to be distributed across different parts of the world? Or get used to talk about different kinds of things? Are there people with both Mastodon and Misskey accounts?

@IPEdmonton there are more than two... #Akkoma and #GoToSocial are others, and there are mastodon "forks" like #Glitch and #Hometown that have different features too (my server is Hometown instead of plain Mastodon)

This came about because not everybody has the same tastes and needs such as:

  • Mastodon can be complicated to set up and consumes more resources. Some alternatives are easier to set up and cheaper to run

  • Sometimes there are geographic preferences due to origin of the software (#Misskey is from Japan, Mastodon is German)

  • Mastodon is written in Ruby and some people like to run servers in languages they are more familiar with (such as Elixir, Go, Python...)

  • Some people don't agree with Eugen's priorities or management style and want features or UI designs he doesn't want to implement like formatting posts or quote-toots so alternatives arise that do those things

Since they all interoperate not many people deliberately have multiple accounts just based on the platform...

I wrote a nano tool that tries to extract the #Fediverse accounts of your #Twitter followings: https://fedifinder.glitch.me/

It searches for the patterns @user, user@host.tld and host.tld/@user in the screen name, description, location and URL field. It displays them to you in the correct format for easy copying as well as a CSV download that can be imported to #Mastodon.

New version: https://fedifinder-backup.glitch.me/

Luca,

This is one of the steps to make #fedifinder more resilient against being shut down. Getting essential access is easier than getting elevated access. Everyone can spin up their own fedifinder instance on #Glitch within minutes. If my account gets suspended, everyone can take over.

At the moment, there is no indication that fedifinder will get shut down. I am careful to follow the Twitter developer terms.

There's an alternative version of Mastodon called "Mastodon Glitch Edition" (aka "glitch-soc" or just "Glitch"). Glitch is totally compatible with normal Mastodon, but adds experimental new features.

For example, Glitch instances let the admin alter the character limit, allow local posting, text formatting and lots of other stuff.

Many features in Glitch have eventually made their way into normal Mastodon after proving themselves stable and useful.

You can find out more at:

https://glitch-soc.github.io/docs/

If you run your own Mastodon instance you can switch to Glitch, and switch back again if you don't like it.

(You may be wondering how this post is so long? It's because FediTips is on an instance that uses Glitch, and the instance character limit has been extended to 1000.)
